I don't like Permanent Waves either. Rush were never really good at writing strong melodies and there aren't any at all on that album.

on the other hand, DRAMA by YES is saturated with them Clap

Defineatly not Permanent Waves. Don't see what the fascination is with that album. If it was Moving Pictures it would have a case !

Anyway, the best album from 80' was Drama followed by Gabriel's melt!

But that's only because Picchio dal Pozzo's Abbiamo,  Eskaton's Ardeur, Zamla Mammaz Manna's  Familjesprickor,  Itoiz' Ezekiel., Art Zoyd's Generation sans Futur, and the Art Bears' The World as it is Today etc. aren't listed, right? Wink

I think 1980 is a very good year for quality progressive albums (according to my tastes of course).

exactly.... take Permanant Waves off the list.. and see how many fewer votes we have...wait... let me guess.. about 30.  It wasn't a full blown prog album... but Rush rocks... oh well... LOL

Itoiz - Ezekiel

I just can't see past Rush, on that poll....although Drama probably comes 2nd..
Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

Dong writing??? I don't even want to know.  Confused

I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you?

Had to give a shout to Drama, although that was a tough choice considering it was up against Duke, Permanent Waves and Smallcreep's Day.  But I always loved that album, and wished that they had produced another album or two together.

I think I may have jumped the gun a bit. I forgot that Mike Oldfield's QE2 was released in 1980. That's by far my fave of that year. It's also one of my faves from Oldfield in general but I think a lot of people don't like it, which is a real mistery to me.
