This, especially. The first time I heard it, I had a huge smile on my face. I kinda laughed a little bit too. It's such an enjoyable album! |

I consider drone metal to be progressive...

I have a lot, as that's one of the main reasons I listen to music. But specifically I would go with:
Wind and Wuthering - Genesis Blomljud - Moon Safari Per Un Amico - PFM V - Spock's Beard Bridges Across Forever - Transatlantic And most recently Big Big Train's latest two releases. But If I had to choose just one it would have to be Harmonium's Si on avait besoin d'une cinquième saison (sp?). Many

Oh, some great mentions in here!
I shortlisted In the Aeroplane Over the Sea (Neutral Milk Hotel), The Yes Album (Yes), Pictures at an Exhibition (ELP), and honorary mention for Beardfish's And The Stone Said, If I Could Speak, because I listen to it every single morning to pep myself up. But my special album is Den of Iniquity by the Norman Haines Band. It just makes me want to tip my hat to everyone I see.

Several I think ...
Jethro Tull's Minstrel in the Gallery. Cold Wind to Valhalla, One White Duck, Baker Street Muse always put a big broad smile on my face. Especially Valhalla. Ayreon's Into The Electric Castle, for its glorious cheesiness, + Amazing Flight has got to be one of the best ayreon tracks ever. The rest of disc 1 is pretty uplifting as well (musically) Biffy Clyro's Only Revolutions is not exactly prog but it is definitely one of my go-to choicesfor feel good music with a twist to it. Can be said of most of the latest album Opposites as well Dream Theater's Images and Words. Take the Time and Metropolis pt.1 are instant smilers (... Is that a word) ? |

Haken - VisionsThe melodies are very uplifting, even though it is a dream about death. It lacks the melancholy that much of the prog world seems to like.

At the moment Big Big Train - English Electric parts 1 and 2. A nod to the golden era of progressive music and my youth.
And to a pastoral, simpler way of life in England ( albeit tough for many )
