Hipsters are a big joke and no one makes more or better fun of them than Steve Colbert.

Hipster hampsters Confused
When he rides, my fears subside.
For darkness turns once more to light.
Through the skies, his white horse flies.
To find a land beyond the night.

Why delete this thread -- what's wrong with hampsters? I love the little critters -- the way they hoard food and nibble on the likes of fruit and nuts.

Good point, Radioswim.  Are there any people who consider themselves hipsters?

As a general reply to the thread.
I've always found that classifying people into a wedge is foolish no matter how intrinsic it may feel.
I have a friend who absolutely loves to use the word "Hipster" to denigrate a particular artist or song I recommend, and although he would never admit if I asked him, it's painfully obvious to me that he unfairly avoids appreciating a particular artist or song based solely on whether or not a 'hipster' would like it. He's actually used the words "sounds too hipster". What being hipster and the sound of music have to do with each-other is beyond me.

This attitude of pretentiousness is generally
how I would consider someone being a 'hipster dufus'. Liking or disliking something based on it's sub-cultural basis. Which is ironically what I would consider my friend, who hates 'hipster's. He acts like the dufus type of it...  uhhh... I have a headache thinking about it.

So anyways, my point is, there isn't any way you can say "this is what hipsters like", because people aren't hipsters, they're individuals who are going to like what they like, unless they act like a hipster dufus and preconceive their appreciation for something.

my brain just keeps hurting... this is pointless. Circular logic Ouch  (I suck)

Sigor Ros instantly springs to mind.
I am currently digging:

Hawkwind, Rare Bird, Gong, Tangerine Dream, Khan, Iron Butterfly, and all things canterbury and hard-psych. I also love jazz!

Please drop me a message with album suggestions.

Hipsters? This thread is so 2007

Making fun of hipsters - 2008

Ironically admitting you're one of them while not being one of them - 2009

Ironically admitting you don't know if you're one of them while not really knowing if you're one of them - 2010

Keep your mind open, proggers

I've collected vinyl for the last 25 years - so that makes me a 'hipster' ??

Under normal circumstances I'd dismiss that as an associative fallacy, but in this case I'm going to take a punt and say, yes it does.
Cool !! I always wanted to be...........something ???

I don't know what a Hipster is, and somehow I'm not embarrassed to say it. There was a local band here in the early '80's called The Hypstrz and they were really good if you were looking for the opposite of prog, which I sort of was at the time.

But nowadaze I'd say they listen to Coldplay.
