My only experience with it so far is Fish-era Marillion... and I find
that to be terrible. They seem to be the most popular of the neo prog
groups here, so I get the feeling I won't like the rest of it either.

Not yummy. I must confess that I dislike even the genre leading bands.
Neo prog was the product of a time when the classical prog bands were
on the decline. Ok, there are some good albums, even in the 90s
(Quidam), but not as progressive rock. The early 80s have already
passed, and there are much better prog bands.
In short, it sucks

Thanks for the recommendation Fan but I think I'll give them a miss. It's not that I don't like their music - I have just come off their site with their excerpts and they sound pretty good. But I'm afraid it's like IQ again in that the drumming goes right through me and severely interferes with my listening. It's the old finger-nails on a blackboard with me. Must be me, I reckon, but the drumming sounds like they have got the cheapest kiddies drum from toys-r-us and put some dried peas for the snare effect. I've tried with IQ (Ever is the worst) and I can't seem to get my audio faculties to put the drumming in the background. Thanks again. Off to give Proto Kaw a try

It's the most predictable style related to prog. The only band I can really listen to (though not very often) is Marillion. The rest just bore me to death.
