Given that they broke the boundaries of 'popular music' with incredibly innovative albums, and their early work with Brian Eno, I say Yes. What do you think?

I agree. "Remain in Light" is a masterpiece, and most definitely prog-related.

Kind of and kind of not, if they formed a couple a years earlier then they would probably be undoubtably a prog group. The trouble is if you include them then wouldn't it justify groups like Devo B502s and early REM on this site?
But Talking Heads are at least friends of prog in my book. David Byrne has apparently worked weith Fripp on an album, and Adrien Belew has worked with Heads.
But if this website will ignore Split Enz (even though most people in New Zealand recognises them as prog to at least some degree) then there is no way in Hell Talking Heads will be considered prog by this website.

I'm not sure they are prog, but they are certainly a progressive band. Incidentally, once I mentioned them on this forum, saying they might have been worthy of inclusion - and some agreed with me. "Remain in Light" is indeed a masterpiece, and I think that the definition of "New Wave" is too limiting for such a band. Anyway, I can see the problems their inclusion would cause - as the "Prog-related" subgenre is filled with bands and musicians that have more in common with AOR and pop than with really innovative music. Then, again, that subgenre contains people such as Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush, who have at least something in common music-wise with Talking Heads.

Prog-related, at least. Fear of music and Remain in light are excellent albums, with plenty of experimentation.

A superb band, one of many extremely inventive and creative acts from the post punk era, but definitely not prog.

No, not prog, but prog-related I think. They were an experimental band for sure.
