Progressive Biography

My name is Chris, and I'm currently a senior Electrical Engineering major at Virginia Tech, though I originally hail from Pittsburgh, PA. Apart from being a student and a ProgArchives collaborator, I am the Program Director and Co-Dictator of Metal at Virginia Tech's student radio station WUVT-FM. When I graduate, I hope to work in either Radio or audio engineering.

As long as I can remember, I've been into music, though I must admit it hasn't always been good (yes, I once liked Creed...). But my journey toward progressive rock began slowly. I had always liked rock and metal that was a bit different from everything else, and I listened to Tool and Radiohead throughout high school. When I got to college, a friend of mine introduced me to Dream Theater, as well as several jazz fusion bands. One day, while looking for information on Brand X, I found ProgArchives. Before that I had no idea that there was even a genre called 'progressive rock' where many of the bands featured the very qualities I liked most about music.

Through my own explorations, as well as through my work in college radio, I became a big fan of the genre known as post-rock, which is fairly new to the prog scene. I'd like to take credit for introducing bands like Isis, Pelican and Red Sparowes to the Archives, but I'm not sure the credit's all mine. This is a great site and a wonderful resource for great music, so enjoy it and let's make it the best we possibly can!
