I didn't ask everyone who they preferred, I asked who they honestly thought was more skilled. I think people are missing the essence of this poll. I don't care who's playing you like better, I want to know who has more skill (which is why I split it into "bass players" and "non-bass players")

Can't decide, both are my absolutely favourite bass players and as it
was said, both are extremely skilled.. Each have different technique and approach.
Squire plays with plectrum, Lee uses his fingers. I can't compare.

I have never considered Geddy Lee a great bass player. If you turn any bass player's amp up in the mix then your'e attention will be drawn to it. For the most part I just hear 'plodding' simple bass lines when I listen to Rush!
Chris Squire will win this poll as sure as houses are houses!

So you don't think the solos in YYZ and La Villa Strangiato are impressive?

You will always find an exception but for the most part I find Lee's bass lines pretty standard!

The question is, would Lee be the bass player he is today if Squire hadn't done it all first?

I'm not complaining, I'm just trying to gain a perspective of skill on the bass. That statement of mine wasn't meant to challenge what he said, it was just a question, but I see how it could be misinterpreted. I don't play bass or understand the instrument, so all I really have to go on is speed.

That's irrelevant.

Geddy Lee, and yes, I play bass. Chris Squire is good, but very overrated by Progheads.

We have had this poll before, and I will vote the same this time - Chris Squire. Still probably my favourite bass player of all. But I do rate Geddy highly too. There is not much in it.

What is going on?
in my head i see geddy lee have 80% of the votes. This isnt a rush vs. yes poll!
Geddy Lee is by far a better bassist! In concert it is a joke how good he is.

I find it funny that the bass player's ratio (7:8) is the same as the nonbassists (21:24 = 7:8).

To be honest I think the technical abilities of these two are too close to call, I just cant split them. However, Lee uses his ability far better than Squire, who, IMO, can make some very dull bass lines and at times plays too much. I dislike CS tone more often than not as well.
I play bass BTW.

I dont play bass, but you can tell that they're quite close in ability. I think squire is a bit more charismatic in his delievery, so I went with him.
