I'd like to know what everybody's thoughts are about non-prog artists doing their own version of prog songs such as: the scissorr sisters doing pink floyd's comfortably numb, or the gym class heroes doing their version of supertamp's breakfast in america (actually retitled it).

As for me I like comfortably numb just fine as a disco song, however I'm not to thrilled by R&B (which of course stands for Rubbish&Bullsh*t), so I don't like the brakfast in america song very much, also not a very creative version. But that's just my opinion, tell me yours and feel free to throw in any and every other non-prog cover of prog songs  in the thread

Hocus Pocus

Power Metal band Helloween included a cover of the song in their 1999 album Metal Jukebox, and Iron Maiden covered it for their 2006 single "Different World". Rock guitarist Gary Hoey released several instrumental renditions of this song on various albums. The pop/classical artist Vanessa-Mae did a cover with violin on her 1997 album Storm. Iron Maiden covered it on the European DVD version of their Different World (song) single. Party Punk band The Vandals also covered Hocus Pocus on their 2nd album, When in Rome, Do as the Vandals.

Doves made a cover of the first half of  King Crimson's Moonchild.
I've heard that Current 93 made a cover of Comus' Diana

Those are the ones I remember at the moment.

I would like to actually see a non-prog band covering a "real" prog song. CN is a non-prog song by a prog rock band, so it's likely that many non-prog artists would cover Owner Of A Lonely Heart and still I wouldn't think they covered a prog song

Saxon covered "The Court of the Crimson King". It wasn't bad.

I remember a cover of 21st Century Schizoid Man by a rock band called Argent. If I remember right, they left out the entire instrumental section.

In the early 1990 there was a dance-techno duo called Opus III (if I can remember properly - their most famous song was "It's a Fine Day" and they featured a baldheaded female singer) which recorded an interesting cover version of King Crimson's "I Talk to the Wind".
The Israeli singer Noah has recently recorded a beautiful cover version of "Eye in the sky", in which you can only hear her and her guitar.
As you quoted the Iron Maiden, you cannot forget their version of Jethro Tull's "Crossed eye Mary".
Recently the Italian public has been sent back to 1976 thanks to a cover version of Le Orme's "Canzone D'Amore" by the pop band Aeroplani Italiani.
The Scissor Sister's cover version of "Confortably Numb" invaded the airplay two or three years ago.
On the contrary, the late Jeff Buckley's version of Genesis's "Back in NY City" is a real jewel which deserves to be discovered.

Finally, there is a cover version of "Your Move", the first section of Yes's "I've seen all good people", by a female vocal combo. I think they're the Wilson Phillips, but I'm not sure. Have you got more precise information about this?

Has this band something to do with another one called Airline? Smile I remember hearing a cover of PFM's 'Impressioni di Settembre' by Airline.

Korn did a cover of the whole Another Brick in the Wall. The curious thing is that it wasn't half bad!

I hate that song!
I didn't know what prog was at that time, though. I only knew Pink Floyd, Sabbath, Zeppelin & Deep Purple

Canadian band April Wine also did a cover of 21st Century Schizoid Man. Canadian prog-metal band Voi Vod has covered more obscure Floyd tunes such as the Nile Song and somewhat less obscure Astronimy Domine.

"21st Century Schizoid Man" was also covered by thrash metal band Forbidden (a really fine cover), as well as by Swedish death metallers Entombed and, of course, by Ozzy Osbourne (pretty lame attempt in his case, I'm afraid).

The Greek sax player Dimitrios Vassilakis and his band did a superb instrumental version of King Crimson's EPITAPH:
