Topic: Pendragon poll: Pure vs. Believe Posted: March 05 2010 at 08:37 |
Yes, I agree with
Morningrise at Pure Barrett made a rethinking of his work and gave his
best work to date. He seemed to analyze
all the errors and weaknesses of the previous two albums. For example Not Of This World was too protracted, and
Believe better but I had the impression that it is unfinished or not
completed!

Believe is a weaker version of Pendragon's earlier classics such as The Masquerade or NOTW, while Pure was a total shed of skin which I loved. Much more heavier and agressive. Must go with Pure.

This is a pole that was started several months ago that I wanted to bump. At that point I'd only heard Pure.
I finally picked up Believe the other day and can cast a vote for this one. I'm going with the majority and giving my vote to Pure. I like Believe but absolutely love Pure. "Indigo" has got to be one of the stronger opening tracks that I've heard in a while and the first two parts of the Comatose suite blow me away.

PURE and simple this album rocks .always been a fan of PENDRAGON and the neo-prog bands. this album strays from that catagory into hard prog territory . without a doubt this is the best album i've bought in a long time. really cant wait to hear what comes next.

So tough to choose when these are 2 of my absolutely fave 3 Pendragon albums. In the end I plumped for Pure but there is very little between them.

These are my two favourite Pendragon albums - very different in style, but both superb.
My vote goes to Pure for sheer quality AND consistency. For me, Believe has one slightly weaker song: No Place for the Innocent - otherwise this would have been quite a tough choice...

And I think Not of this World is way too dense. Believe was just right, but I agree the Middle Eastern theme couldn't have been continued. I like the stylistic turn they did with Pure, but I think a lot of the songs aren't up to par.

Pure by a very long mile, to me the songs are stronger anf the guitar work is fantastic.
Then by adding Scott's drumming which is fantastic its a clear winner
Its not that I dislike Believe but it is a transitional album and anything that came straight after NOTW would have a hard time.
