Patton has more creativity in his left buttcheek than Wolfmother will ever have as an entire group. His personality...well...is intense. So was Zappa's.
That subject aside, for those of you who enjoy Wolfmother, check out Bigelf. Everything Wolfmother does, they do better, and add a bit of prog too.
You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

I don't know a lot about Wolfmother, i have heard odd tracks and they're really good, they sound much better than FNM - i know what the git guy means though, it seems sort of Black Sabbath meets Uriah Heep, and some of the vocals are very reminiscent of early Robert Plant, nothing wrong with that if it's done well - must check them out some more....

It doesn't really matter if a band is modern, ahead of it's time, or lost in time and space. It's MUSIC that counts.
And I love Wolfmother a lot. For some reason, they clicked with me. Actually they hit me hard with their musical and lyrical details. I can go that far and say they're one of top 5 musical discoveries for me in last two years, and I believe I had investigated quite a lot of various music in the meantime, both old and new.
They're SINCERE. Just listen to the drummer: it's not about his technical skill or his style - but he puts all of his heart and stamina into the drumming, it's almost childish. How could I dislike such a band?

He may be a member of some really well-respected Prog acts, but Patton's a dip-sh*t for saying that. So, he's good in Mr. Bungle and is associated with Dillinger Escape Plan; I'll take his opinion on anything seriously the moment he grows out of puberty.
I just don't understand musicians who talk sh*t about fellow musicians. If the situation were like the Radiohead vs. Miley Cyrus incident, it would be different; because Cyrus isn't a real musician; she's an actress playing a musician, like most modern pop acts.
But Wolfmother is an actual, sincere band that makes real music. Now, whether or not it's to everybody's taste, that's different (I myself find them slightly annoying), but when someone is pouring their heart and soul into their art as I believe the guys in Wolfmother are, it's really lame to mock them.

Patton made choices that I admire, choosing to follow a musically adventurous path that really doesn't include any selling out I'm aware of. Wolfmother is a concept group, retro look, retro sound, it's not really about creative expression. But that's okay.
As another (probably more) talented and creative guy seemed to understand despite taking the artistic higher path "It's just entertainment folks."
Patton will be Patton. I'm sure it sticks in his craw that he once blew Chris Cornell off the stage on the tour they shared and now Cornell is a gazillionaire and he's just another talent constantly scrounging to keep going.

I mean, I'm not saying I don't respect Patton as a musician. He's brilliant, but as an aspiring musician myself, I would hate to think that somebody would mock me behind my back simply because they personally don't like my music. It happens all the time, but usually it comes from laypeople who don't have any talent whatsoever, so those comments end up not really amounting to much.
But when someone of the stature and talent of Patton makes comments like that, they hold more weight, and are likewise bound to be more damaging to someone with thinner skin.
I guess I just feel that in the music community, everybody should be supportive of each other, regardless of personal taste, and if you don't like someone's work, be honest about it, but you don't have to go out of your way to insult a whole band including their fanbase. That's just . . . immature.
Probably a very naive view for me to have, I know, but it's just logical to me that people in the same biz would want to support each other rather than be so competitive and hateful as people seem to be becoming more and more.

Micah, you are a kind soul. I think musicians in general are more supportive of each other these days than when I was coming up. It was much more gunslinger, lots of rivalry, and the more music you do, you're going to see some of that.
At the same time, I think things have diversified so much, and the industry is a bit more wide open now. I see alot more mutual support now. I think that there's more friendly support as you get into a bit of a more professional atmosphere as well.
You'll be a better rock star than Patton.
