...at least some of the time. I've found a few so far. I mean not just somewhat similar, like, say, Dream Theater, but so similar that it's obviously intentional and you can't help but think "Rush". (Yes, I know, DT is arguable
![]() - Sieges Even: on "Steps" and "A Sense of Change", the sound is amazingly similar to Hemispheres / Permanent Waves era Rush, albeit much more complex. A bit like Rush playing King Crimson, perhaps. A very interesting twist on the classic Rush sound, though I think I'd prefer if they were instrumental (especially Steps). I also like how they occasionally mix in stuff that sounds nothing like Rush. http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=696 - Zombi: almost the reverse image of Sieges Even - also at times really similar to Rush, but much more repetitive and simplistic. Instrumental, too. http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=2753 - check out "Legacy" - Maximum Indifference: very interesting instrumental band that isn't on the Archives yet. Sometimes sounds very similar to Rush, sometimes totally not like Rush. http://www.maximumindifference.com/evidence/ Anything else? Edited by splyu - April 24 2010 at 14:35 |

Tiles have been compared to Rush. Probably, Presents of Mind is best to check out. Terry Brown is their producer. On the band From.UZ latest album, The Seventh Story, the have a song called Parallels, which borrows the opening riff from YYZ. Check it out here. http://10trecords.com/artists/genres/progressive-experimental/fromuz/discography/ |

I can't say they sound "intentionally" similar as you put it, but I do think this little known album will please very much most Rush fans.

I knew I forgot someone! ![]() That reminds me that, along with Tiles, a band called Paradigm Blue used to be very popular on a Rush forum I used to visit. Can't really remember what they sound like though. Edited by splyu - April 24 2010 at 14:58 |

Checking it out on Youtube now. Good stuff! I agree though that while there certainly is a Rush influence, it isn't as overt as in the examples I gave.
And this I like as well. From Uzbekistan? Wow! Easily the best Uzbek band I've heard! ![]() Edited by splyu - April 24 2010 at 15:12 |

The band Proloud sounds (mainly from the voice) like Rush in some songs.

For some reason the vocalist from Saga reminds me of Geddy Lee except, you know, tolerable.

Andrew Gorczyca - Reflections - An Act of Glass
This guy was clearly a Rush fan IMO. The music has its own character - a kind of 1980's prog vibe - so I don't consider it a Rush clone. But I can't see how this music could possibly *not* have been inspired by Rush.

Guitarist finds drummer and bassist on a Rush mailing list and forms band named ELECTRUM. Their debut "Frames of Mind" is interesting in that it is the most *minimalist* Rush imitation I've ever heard. They reduce the Rush approach to a form of hard rock that during key stretches (more often than not) I can only describe as "melodically ambient". Love it or hate it, there is no doubt that is is very RUSH inspired and *unique*.
Their 2nd album, "Standard Deviation" is a great step forward for the band in terms of composition and production. But that first one projects a more singular identity and wears its RUSH influence more "on its sleeve" so to speak.

For what it's worth... The Electrum album I mentioned is instrumental (no vocals).
The Andrew Gorczyca album features vocals that sound nothing like Geddy Lee at all. Not shrill or nasal at all. (Not that I particularly dislike vocals that pierce through the mix myself... I actually sometimes prefer Geddy's high pitched 'nail scratches chalkboard' style to the more comfortable range he sings in these days but that is just me. I can certainly see how some might dislike his vocals.)
Interestingly enough, neither of the two I mentioned border on the metallic side of things like Rush did at times either.

If you hate Geddy's vocals, then you may want to avoid "Coheed and Cambria".
Conversely, if you are *looking* for bands with a sound similar to Rush, C&C would be worth at least checking out IMO.

Or avoid Pavlov's Dog (though I prefer Surkamp's vocals to Lee's).
