IZZ are a wonderful neoprogressive rock band from the US, who get some mention from time to time here, but it doesn't appear that a poll has ever been done for them, so here it is. Which of their albums is your favorite? I have included their soon to be released album The Darkened Room as a bonus choice, although I suppose that that is kind of unfair, since it hasn't been released yet.
If you aren't familiar with IZZ, you should check them out here on their MySpace page:

Although I'm not terribly familiar with each release, my initial reaction is toward Ampersand, Vol. I and probably their least progressive. Seems to me that album is more indicative of their "own" sound then a combination of their influences. I do like them all though, really need to get that Nearfest album.

My River Flows. Not a masterpiece but damn close, and no doubt their strongest effort. Late Night Salvation is also my favorite IZZ song. Nearfest would be second and I Move third.

Yeah I like all of them as well. I think I move is more consistent but My River Flows has some better overall songs. I like the new track they released as well. After hearing a couple of songs at Calprog next year I think the new one is going to be their best yet so I voted for it.
Edit
I don't consider them neoprog either. I know one Galgano is a huge Marillion fan but they have way more influences than that. (Should have hear them nail Trilogy by ELP last year and Close to the Edge in 2005.) I think they are true symphonic style and no Neo band I know has such a strong guitar like Paul Bremmer's either.

I have recently re-listened to everything from them and have decided to cast my vote for My River Flows. I am really not disappointed with anything they have released however. Their latest album The Darkened Room is quite good and could have easily gotten my vote as well.

Yeah the new one is a grower. But MRF is just outstanding from beginning to end. One of the best modern records I own.

I probably should post this as a separate thread, but eh, I figured I'd just bump this one.
March 31, 2011 Doone Records is pleased to announce the release of Peter Gabriel’s “Red Rain” as arranged, performed and recorded by IZZ, available now on iTunes and all other digital download retailers. This classic track from Gabriel’s hit record “So” provides a perfect base for IZZ’s own blend of melodic sense and powerful rhythmic interplay. IZZ delivers an energetic and dynamic take on the track which features the unmistakable sound of guitarist Paul Bremner, whose unique delay-infused introduction to the song drives the distinctive arrangement. Completing the one-two punch is the propelling rhythm section of bass and drums from Greg DiMiceli and John Galgano. IZZ’s version of the song provides the listener with a different take on this Peter Gabriel gem, while paying due respect to the original song. IZZ fans and Gabriel fans alike are sure to enjoy this new take on a classic track. To purchase Red Rain from iTunes, click here or copy and paste this link into your browser: http://itunes.apple. com/us/album/red-rain-single/ id428530388?uo=4 For more information, visit the IZZ website at www.izznet.com or visit the IZZ facebook page at www.facebook.com/izzmusic |

Just recently I bought Sliver Of A Sun. My first IZZ purchase, and I must say it's a pretty good album. In the same record store I bought SoaS, they had Ampersand, vol 1 too, and I didn't buy it. My question is: should I waste my money on it? or is it as mediocre as the few ratings/reviews on this site and the results of this poll (just 1 vote so far) claim it to be?

Wow! I don't own any IZZ, but I've liked all I've heard from them. This is no exception! I'll have to be on the lookout for them. Two dummers, huh? Interesting. I hear bass in this song, but the bass player appears to be playing second guitar. Where is the bass coming from? |
