I am not a great fan, I find this kind of riffage a bit boring. I know Meshuggah and Gojira, both are good but the one I like the most is early Mastodon.

I don't find Cloudkicker to be djent, at least he sound completely different to the bands I mentioned above. I do like him, but I think he's rather cloudcore than djent.

Hmm, those guys have a pretty lax definition of djent. They even have Blotted Science there, which is the opposite of djent.

They are one of the essential bands of the tech/extreme scene. But djent does not equal extreme technical metal. Djent are those bands who emphasize crazy riffing, while Blotted Science emphasize variation and intricacies. Cloudkicker is somewhere in between (and not that heavy either).

Blotted Science is NOT djent. Technical death metal does not equals djent.

How did I miss this thread?

Yeah, Blotted Science aren't djent.  They have some math metal-ish elements but as a whole are not.

Djent is pretty much characterized by the timbre of low-tuned guitars, in addition to heavy math metal/electronic elements and clean production values.

naw, djent refers to the guitar sound, not so much the style (although playing style does closely relate to getting a djent sound)

it's that ssshhhlugh sort of thing that Meshuggah do, and, indeed, what all of Cloudkicker's guitar sounds like

Don't forget the GROOVE Kevin. That's important too.

About Blotted Science, that's because of the guitarrist. The guy is a mega technical freak. He is one of the founding members of Watchtower, so he is one of the forefathers of both technical and extreme metal. Impressive how 20 years later he is still alive and kicking!
