Topic: From Genesis to Revelation vs Chicago Transit Auth Posted: September 19 2011 at 10:46 |
two debute albums from 69 one stumbling search for an identity and a mammoth of an ambitious album on the other side, one that dabbels in folk, blues, psychadelia and pop, the other that flexes it's muscles in jazz, rock, funk, soul, r&b, big band and psychadelia. two bands that would define each spectre of progressive music, progressive symponic and progressive jazz rock, both had their share of interesting albums before they became more interesting in making money and atract females,

The above comments. I wish that CTA/Chicago would have stayed this direction throughout their career. What a defining album it was at the time. Terry Kath was/is greatly missed .

Chicago's first two albums are brilliant. I do have FGTR but I struggle to listen to the whole thing.

I have a special place for the naive but extremely beautiful FGTTR over any post Hackett album (Yes even better for that ATTW3 and Duke), really lovely album, on the other hand I don't like any Chicago album.
So my choice is obvious...From Genesis to the Revelation.

In the beginning there was light jazz and it was good. The windy city bus system wins by biblical proportions.

This. Although I do like Chicago and the first couple of records they created are fantastic.

CTA. Whereas CTA is Chicago's best album, FGTR is Genesis' worst album until after Hackett's departure. Genesis is the better band, but CTA is the better of these two albums. FGTR is Genesis trying to find their way; after CTA, Chicago progressively lost their way (esp. after Terry Kath's untimely demise).

Hmm, I'm quite surprised that anyone would pick the Genesis debut over CTA!

CTA by far, id rather listen to the first two chicago albums than any genesis album to be honest. IMO chicago were much better writers all around, with much more influences from different styles of music.

CTA - one of my favourite albums. Not even sure where my copy of FGTR is anymore.
