Riverside, I detest Evergrey and after listening to one of their early albums, I wonder why they are considered prog?
Well I think they are... The music might not be the most complex, but the plethora of concept albums, variety, musicianship and unusual songwriting does it for me.

I went with Riverside in a landslide... I was introduced to both bands via ProgPower USA concerts and Riverside put on a much better show and I enjoy their music a lot more, too.

Not a 100% fair battle of course. Riverside is one of the top prog bands whilst Evergrey is (though very good) no where near that league.
I'm a big Riverside fan so can only pick them but I owe 6 Evergrey albums as well. Great band but their compositions are simply no match for Riverside standard.

A little notice: if Riverside is "underrated" band, then I'm a Chinese God of Fun.

Evergrey is more of a metal band with some prog influences, while Riverside is definitely a prog metal band. Aside from In Search of Truth and to a lesser extent Recreation Day, Evergrey doesn't have anything to really compete with Riverside.

Riverside
Evergrey is no match for Riverside, I like them a lot, but there are few bands that could really be a competition for Riverside in a poll.
BTW, Evergrey's last album Hymns for the Broken is excellent, their best work since 2004 (The Inner Circle), a must listen for those who like Evergrey.

I don't know what is this 'Evergrey' - but I simply adore Riverside, not that they're Polish, not that they are 'metal' ( I am NOT a fan of metal - only precious few things........... Riverside tick the right boxes for me........
