I never heard a progrock band before the Spring of 73.
A friend of mine gave two tapes to hear:
1- Dark side of the moon
2- Machine head
I never forgot that moment and I have all Deep Purple's cds until Stormbringer. Why?
For the keyboards, you can substitute Ian Gilan or Ritchie Backmore, but without JON LORD there is no Deep Purple at all.
Thank you for your music Jon, specialy the "Concerto for Group and Orchestra".
His Music is in my heart and in my head - always.
Rest In Peace, Old Friend!

Jon Lord, a man I did not know personally.
Jon Lord, a man who would have walked past me in the street without recognition. Jon Lord, a man whose playing introduced me to how rock organ could sound. Jon Lord, a man whose playing introduced me to an entire genre. Jon Lord, a man whose legacy can and will be heard in virtually every rock Hammond player. Jon Lord, a man for whose passing I unashamedly shed a tear this evening. Jon Lord, a true icon of Rock music. Jon Lord. Rest In Peace. |

I was into Deep Purple before prog. A true elder statesman of classic rock, and a true gentleman.
Very sad news, but there is a huge legacy to remember.

^There's nothing wrong in having two drummers in the same band. The Allman Brothers did, if I'm not mistaken. On secong thought, Bonham's and Moon's off stage behaviour could be too much to handle for the bandleader

A very underrated one, if you ask me. His "Concerto for Group and Orchestra" is reasonably well known, but the superior (IMO) "Gemini Suite" is rarely mentioned. I used to have it on vinyl and played the hell out of it as a teenager. Worth checking out, if you've yet to do so. RIP. |

Wow. Just one of those times, when you realise you've been asleep, and suddenly woken up to face reality. This does really sadden me. Such a waste...

Keith Moon will join them for some drum fills.
Sad news indeed, RIP Jon, but I always think that we all have to die so the point is having lived a rich and purposeful life, and he certainly can claim having succeeded.

I can't believe it !
I have the first notes of "child in time" playing in my head. A great rock keyboardist, but also a good classical music composer. RIP

He came across well in interviews as a genuine nice bloke. He admitted he couldn't have been like Keith Emerson and saw himself as a supporting player rather than a 'lead'. Child In Time amongst many great tracks is the one I like best for his playing. The best pure rock organist that ever lived. RIP Jon.
