With such bad works, remastering is not enough...

If I I had to start with just 3 Dream Theater albums to get an understanding of what the band is capable of I'd chose I IMAGES AND WORDS, SCENES OF A MEMORY(Metropolispt2) and TRAIN OF THOUGHT. I feel with those 3 albums you get a pretty diverse sound from the band, although the album AWAKE is my favourite and a real gem at that I would not listed because it carries a similar sound I&W's. GET THOSE 3!!!!

The remaster is just louder than the original.
I would say keep going backwards chronologically if that's working for you. You've got Octavarium next, and that's like, the best prog epic of the 2000s and stuff.

Although, to be honest, I've been a Dream Theater fan for like 7 years before I became a TFK fan. |
ah, okay, so it's the DT dudes who took over the TFK thread i'm at systematic chaos at this point. i was gonna start at the beginning, but i really like jordan rudess. i've liked everything so far...except some of the hot mastering. like tfk, it takes a while to get into some of their tunes for me...especially the really metal tunes. |
Start from the beginning, you won't regret! |
When Dream and Day Unite? Or do you mean the Majesty Demos?
At least get When Dream and Day Reunite with James on vocals. Awesome show. |
When Dream and Day Unite is the best 80s progressive metal album ever released. It is just recorded by a drunk monkey. |
True. People often dismiss it as being bad just because the sound quality is crap, but it's actually quite a good album.

And most people - Rush 2112 - the start absolutely AWESOME - a band capable of creating such magnificance - the produce good stuff in FTK - Xanadu, Cygnus X-1 - Hemispheres (all) - SOR solid, MP - less so but some good stuff. then........que the tumble weeds drifting across the desert or a cold wind whistling over canadian tundra....

I don't exactly remember when it was, but I'll get back to you and see if I have it among my hundreds of DT boots.
