Topic: When You First Listened To Joe's Garage Posted: February 28 2013 at 01:37 |
I thought it was pretty funny, but a bit too long, and a a bit uneven

You gotta hand it to dear Frank - it took mega-balls to conceive and release such a concept as this Joe extravaganza........and now, my focus returns to Pepetual Change (up to Howe's jazzy solo, and now I'm up to the jumpy prog riff, and now that counter-melody has entered, and Howe is twangin' away...........now Kaye's moog.....)
............oh.....the Central Scrutinizer tells me that Mary is backstage at The Armory doing something many of us guys enjoy..........

This. But also based on past experience with Zappa I suspect that I wish there were no vocals would probably be my vote.

I thought it was weak, the sheik was ok, if it had been just a one off, but when Joes came out, I was hoping for something less mainstreamish

"Watermelon in Easter Hay" makes any shortcomings of the album worth it. The use of the song at the end of the movie "Y Tu Mama Tambien" is brilliant.

Overall I was pretty disappointed by Joe's Garage. Some songshave great parts, but I rarely feel like actually listening to the whole thing. Frank was a funny guy, but here the "story" kind of got in the way of the music. Plus, The Central Scrutinizer has not aged so well.

Disc 1 was superior to disc 2. But as a whole, enjoyable.

At first I only liked the first first few songs and a couple others throughout the album, but now I love the entire thing.

I loved the Central Scroooootinizer - with some great music along the way too. Eccentric, hilarious, crass - it is all of these things. Definately original for sure.

At the time, I mainly listened to the first disc and ignored the second.
BTW, I love the mantra Mary recites in "Packard Goose".

These options really aren't mutually exclusive, but I'd say "You liked some sides better than others" probably fits me the best. I've come to like it less over time.
