^True my username does tell you something about my vote. I noticed Two Steves was undecided. That figures as well. I don't actually care for Starship Trooper and Yours is No Disgrace, I'm sorry to say, but that's me.

I think my Gemini personality can appreciate the yin and yang of both groups equally---it really depends on my mood as to which band I want to listen to---both make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up when I listen to the classic period with Hackett and Howe---the two best.

Yes
70's very little between them in quality but Yes were a bit more interesting and adventurous to my ears. 80's very little between them . Duke and Drama were both exceptionally good and then I think Yes have the 'edge' Early 90's Talk is a very good album and much better than The Way We Walk. Later on Genesis did that horrid Calling All Stations while Yes produced their weakest album Open You Eyes but Magnification and Keystudio were both again very good releases. Genesis did then have that surprisingly good live reboot but no new studio albums. Yes on the other hand have at least put out a couple of reasonable releases FFH and Heaven and Earth and tour regularly.

Is there going to be a poll where we can vote for the best "Yes vs Genesis" poll?

Genesis for me, I find their melancholic style more suited to my tastes.

Regarding the PA archives.....
Yes has 5 four star albums and Genesis has 7 four star albums....after that they both have 3 and 2 star work based on votes.
Not a huge difference imho and as someone mentioned above the later Genesis and Yes albums were both below their best work by anyone's measure.
So in the end it simply comes down to personal taste.

Concert attendance is also in Genesis favor, and if Gabriel and Hackett, were to do a tour with Genesis it would be off the charts.
I love Yes, and have been seeing them live since 1979, over 10 times with every major config, however they have never moved me like Genesis in concert.

Yes, album-wise, can be hit or miss for me. The albums I really love are Close to the edge, Going For The One, Drama, and Big Generator. (Big Generator is kinda a guilty pleasure album for me) With Genesis, however, I can say i love the majority of their studio discography. (Minus Abacab and Calling All Stations). Genesis wins for me.

Not sure what astrology has to do with this BUT I'm with you here. I think both bands are two of the finest prog bands of all-time. I mean their influence alone puts them at the top of the heap. I think Genesis were a much more consistent band, but I think when Yes were on, they gave Genesis a run for their money. I don't think I could imagine my life now without those early Yes classics like The Yes Album, Fragile, Close To The Edge, Going For The One, or Relayer. These albums alone are why I rate Yes so highly and why I'll continue to return to their music time and time again.

Yes has been through so much more history and reincarnations. I have to give it to them if only for the variety.

Genesis, but that's mostly down to Mike & The Mechanics luring people in.

1968-72 Yes win 1973-74 Pretty even. Prog bands went a bit stupid in this period with over the top albums which get overrated here 1975-1980 Genesis win
|
All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

Yes BY FAR. The musicianship is astounding, compared to Genesis' sub-par drivel.
