Won't work on teenagers - My youngest son (10.5) has expressed he likes some of the music I have played in the car....But my Eldest (14.5) - He takes the piss out of my music taste all the time - He always quotes "Porcupine tree" as a farcical example of "un-cool" music, but what do you expect from a lad who openly wants to be a black American gang member when he's a white Englishman* (*uncool - obv), I blame the mass-media and play station games......

I'm not so sure about people getting smart again.
I don't mean to be offensive and i am actually a pretty left wing
person, but your average human being, in all parts of the world, is a
complete idiot, and that is never going to change, so us enlightened
prog fanatics are forever going to be a minority struggling to spread
the word to those less open minded than ourselves.

It's so hard to convert people, I've been trying for a while, but
people switch off as soon as you metion the word prog, they know
nothing about it and aren't prepared to give it a chance because of the
popular media having turned it into a dirty word, for shame.

but maybe people get smart again?
I don't think they were that much smarter in older days .... maybe it just worked because there wasn't this stupid music which catches the attention of people because it's so easy to get into ...

The only problem is that now whenever you hearpop music and such, you can't stand it, and music becomes obsessive, but there's a price for everything nice.

haha, so true, tuxon
i'm 16 years old, and nobody likes the music i listen to... maybe i should've kept listening to pop ...... but then I wouldn't have experienced real music ... so: Knowledge is more important, and trying to persuade them is pretty funny too .. so I don't really regret it

You can't expose a child to King Crimson, that's cruelty, there should be a law against that.

i don't think a music can't have any redeeming qualities because you don't like it. there is obviously something about it that people like, otherwise it wouldn't be popular. it's like slipknot . person: "grrr, i'm angry *turns on tv* wow! this band sounds terrible and is angry. i'm gonna buy there stuff cause they have a sound that i bet isn't popular" repeat until it becomes popular. it happens when counter-culturs become pop-cultur, and they loose every that was counter-cultur abour them. so my point is...uhm...yup. and most people will tend to like some of the same bands you do if you just talk to them.
