I was always middle of the road when it came to Zappa but I'm not into KC so Frank gets the vote.

Really, I'm not sure for whom to vote: the two albums start with strong and defining pieces, but the other tracks sound to me weaker than the opening songs. Yet, I think I would have a slight preference for In the Court..., especially because of the title track.

In the court still would have won for me even if Moonchild was 30 minutes long instead of 12.

Hot Rats for the holy trilogy of Peaches, Umbrella and Camel. 3 strokes of sonic genius. Love the redt of the slbum but those three are simply out of this world; made me think about music in a new and exciting way - hell they still do. What I really dig about em is that they should't work. Some of the music literally defies logic and indeed musical sense - becomes something wholly....errm...other. Chocolate and bacon.

In The Court today. It might change tomorrow. Both fantastic albums to my taste.

Both are 2* albums, but I prefer King Crimson - for once.

Court, while being only my 5th favourite of the classic King Crimson albums, is still a masterpiece. Try as I might to find faults in it, I always find something new to appreciate whenever I put it on.
Never quite understood the love for Hot Rats, though; guess I'll have to give it another listen.

Also, both have a guy named Ian (Underwood for Rats, McDonald for Court) who play an insane amount of keyboards, winds and reeds.

Definitely Hot Rats! For KC, I'd prefer Lizard or Larks probably

Two random guys agreed to shake hands. Just Because. They felt like it, you know. It was an agreement of sorts...a random agreement.

That's a tough one. In terms of listening pleasure they're about at equal level to me although I'm less moody about Hot Rats, ITCOTKC is top on some days and I can't bear it on others. The historical significance and innovation of Crimson's one makes it a tight winner.

The King Crimson album is one of the most important albums in rock history, Prog Rock would be completely different without that album. Hot Rats is important too, not as much as ITCotCK, but, in my opinion, it's more pleasant and delicious. Voting for King Crimson

Hot Rats easily for me.
Both artists are top 10ish for me, but Zappa in my #2 while Crimson isn't higher than #7 (my order never changes from 1 through #6, after that it tends to shift around). Also, I'd probably rank Hot Rats around the lower middle of a Zappa album ranking, but In the Court of the Crimson King would easily be in last place of a Crimson album ranking for me. I do like In the Court, but I like every other Crimson album more. The only Crimson-related stuff I'd rank below In the Court are some of the ProjeKct albums.
