Qhich these two very impactful and one of a kind singer-songwriters do you listen to mostly
To me they represent two very good and strong chapters in the history of singer-songwriting. These gents are natural addition to any anthology which deals with the history of singer-songwriting |

I prefer Cat Stevens, so voted for him, but if I voted with my head it would be Van Morrison all the way, if only for sheer longevity of quality output. The Cat packed it in in 1978, his last few albums had highlights but weren't great, and from what I've heard of the recent stuff the soul is gone. I have lost touch with Morrison in recent years but I know he was going very strong at least till the early 1990s

Cat Stevens. Van Morrison may be good now and then, but I consider him severely overrated. I may be wrong in this, but I can't help it.

Man Vorisson for me although I dig Yusuf's early years.

Can't decide: I prefer Cat Stevens's early 70's classics (Tea for the Tillerman !) over anything by Van Morrison, but as a whole, Van's output is better, especially concerning the post-80's albums.

Van Morisson's best: Astral Weeks
Yusuf's best: Tea For The Tillerman I think I love both of those albums just about equally depending on my mood. |

I love "Tea" but equally love the albums that bracket it - "Mona Bone Jakon" and "Teaser and the Firecat". I thought Van had a resurgence in the late 1980s with the wonderful "Poetic Champions Compose" and "Avalon Sunset". I haven't followed him lately, but, of the earlier albums, I thought "Moondance" and "Veedon Fleece" were also great. Never really heard an album of his I didn't like, even if I might not like everything on it. Prog connection - he was buddies with Peter Bardens prior to Camel, playing together in "Them". The 1978 Morrsion release "Wavelength", featured Bardens on keys on several songs. I loved the song "Natalia", which will forever be associated with my very first real job, hearing it on the radio many mornings as I prepared for the daily grind. |

I'm really surprised that Stevens is beating Van the Man......I always thought that Stevens had a few decent songs here and there but Van had great albums.
Well...Van The Man for me.....no comparison.

I'm a bit surprised too, but it's a pretty small sample size. And I do think he had more than a few more than decent songs
