I was listening to TIMF in my car the other day and so I came up with this idea for a poll.

I love the others but 'The Inner Mounting Flame' will always be my favorite Mahavishnu Orchestra album.

Birds of Fire, but this band's been boring the sh*t out of me lately for some reason!

I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect. |

Both are fantastic, but Birds ofFire takes my vote, just by a hair.

The first album in some ways seems more wild and rough around the edges to me while Birds of Fire seems more polished so my vote is for BoF. I agree that both are great though and maybe me being still somewhat new to IMF and first heard BoF when I was a teen has something to do with it.
For anyone reading this not familiar with this band these two albums are both in the progarchives top 100(the inner mounting flame is number 66 and birds of fire is number 33). Edited by AFlowerKingCrimson - July 14 2019 at 11:09 |

Do you mean their later albums or just the band in general?

Both almost equally, but went with Birds of Fire since it was my first album by them before hearing the first one. Plus I wanted to make the voting results a little more interesting

Got to be Inner Mounting Flame - It's got Noonward Race so it wins hands down.

Birds of Fire is just more polished, sonically. If I want to be shock-and-awed by JM's hard-driving fusion, I'll go to Devotion before Inner Mounting Flame.

I've only heard Birds of Fire, and was somewhat blown away by the musicianship. I won't vote. I;d need to hear the other album first.
