I think that the lads we're indeed motivated and that the album has many good high points. It's no DSotM or Animals naturally, but the lyrics have a certain down beat English-ness to them that does fit the band, even if they are missing Waters' vitriol.

The whole album has a certain early Floydian vibe with the soundscapes and all. As well one of the top tier productions for Pink Floyd also.

Agreed. I really enjoyed the album and the tour was fantastic.

"Sleepwalking back again" Wink

High hopes is an unintentional and unfortunate epitaph for the album.  Kind of sums it up. If you expected that now, with the band settled down as a full unit again, they would fire on all cylinders, you'd be sorely disappointed.

It is however a better outing than Momentary Lapse of Reason.  It is reasonably consistent and has some strong outings.  Overall, the problem at root is still the same lack of ambition that drags down Lapse.  It's just too soft and polite for a Floyd album, end of the day.  Neither the mystery and enigma of Meddle/DSOTM nor the menace and bite of Animals/Wall.  Just a bunch of songs being played by a band seemingly for no other reason but to 'prove' Waters wrong; I mean, spiting Waters seems to be the theme informing a bunch of songs on the album.
