Rushfan4 made a nice Halloween-poll restricted to songs with spooky in the title. I thought I'd just expand on that idea and pick some of the Halloween-relevant proggy tunes I could think of. I went for a sort of childish approach and tried to come up with songs that in one way or another are about ghosts, witches, zombies, vampires, demons... basically your typical beasts and monsters that we associate with the horror genre. Which also includes the occult, haunted houses, graveyards, voodooo and possessions etc...

-In a nutshell songs I'd consider if I should ever host a Halloween-party for proggers. So not a whole lot of antisocial, uncomfortable soundscapes or atonal horror strings. More like vintage, mostly fun songs about scary things. That I like. That I love actually. I know I'm missing a lot of songs in italian, french, german, spanish etc... They are harder to remember because most of the time I don't really know what they are about - until I check. All 1960's-1970 songs here and if you miss some songs (which I'm certain that you do). Maybe make your own poll.

Vote for three favorites if you like. I plan to come back here and post some videos of songs, but not right now.

*Full title: The Mothers of Invention - Invocation and Ritual Dance of the Young Pumpkin

Black Widow - Come to the Sabbath
Atomic Rooster - Death Walks Behind You

with honorable mentions to Goblin and Arthur Brown.

Great poll!

Lucifer Sam has always been a favorite of mine. On Fridays I chase permafrost around the dining room. On Saturdays we swim with the potatoes.

Nice to see some less often mentioned acts listed. Many good/interesting ones in this list; I quite like the Os mutantes track, but it is a bit short. I'll vote for Amon Düül II.

Wonder if one person voted for C'Thlu Thlu six times, or if six different anonymous people have voted for it separately. It's not that important but that's my issue with multiple votes. Anyway glad to see most of you find this an interesting list of artists/bands/songs. I amde myself a playlist out of it and find it a hugely enjoyable listen. Makes me wish I was actually hosting this proggy Halloween-party - maybe next year:)

Voted "Diana," "The Four Horseman," and "Jack the Ripper"--all worthy of the scariness of the Hallowe'en theme.

Concur RE Pulsar's "Halloween": shoulda woulda.

To include Pulsar - Hallowen would be including an album. These are songs. Isn't that obvious?

Halloween only has two songs (one if it weren't for the parameters provided by the vinyl format)--though they both are technically "suites"--both called "Halloween" (parts 1 & 2). Any argument with that? Are you going to say that suites are not songs?--or that none of the above offerings could not be construed as "suites"?

I'm saying that I wouldn't have inluded Thick as a Brick in a poll containing a bunch of prog folk-tunes to choose from. Although it's technically "a song", I would only select it for an album poll. Anyway here's the tracklist for Halloween:

 Halloween Part I
 1 - Halloween Song 1:20
2 - Tired Answers 9:30
3 - Colours of My Childhood 6:00
4 - Sorrow in My Dreams 3:40
Halloween Part II
5 - Lone Fantasy 4:50
6 - Dawn Over Darkness 6:10
7 - Misty Garden of Passion 2:15
8 - Fears of Frost 3:35
9 - Time 1:50

Yes, Azathoth is a great one. I remember a few more candidates like this now one after I posted the poll (but pleased with the selection I came up with as well)
