We're supposedly a totally non-political site, so the image as it is currently displayed certainly rings alarm bells with me, but whether or not we need to remove the single altogether from the guy's discography I guess is up to admins to decide.

I agree, it's admins' case.

I don't like it, not because of politics but because of the imagery, but I'm not going to remove it, and would rather leave that up to M@X (of course he is not very involved in such matters, but it is his site). Or remove it depending on complaints. We have specific rules about nudity, and some violent imagery I would immediately take down. I am not comfortable with censorship often and I absolutely am not comfortable with that album cover, and I don't think it supposed to make you comfortable, but I'm not confident enough that it breaks the site rules to remove it (the politics rules we brought in were made due to abuse in the forum).

I don't believe that we are or ever have been supposed to be a completely non-political site. Much music has a political dimension, meaning artists like other people care about politics and social issues and those themes come through in their releases. We can;t censor out all releases with political dimension. It can be integral to the release. My top album that was in PA for last year was from GY!BE and had a message about what was going on with Palestine and Israel.

Regrettably, but I think understandably, we did ban most political discussion (in reason) from the forum some time back. That was done because things would get so heated with personal attacks and even threats. We do have rules about civility in the forum and unfortunately civility was not maintained despite warnings and reminders again and again. It was too much work to have to deal with, I felt. I wish we could have had much more civil and constructive discourse on politics. I wish people could talk ideas sensibly without easily causing or giving offence and without ad hominem attacks. One can in the right setting, like in a university classroom (I loved talking politics in class). That said, since politics can be so important to the art, and this site is dedicated to an art, I could not expect it to be totally ignored at this forum. It depends on how it's approached.

A few days ago I responded to a topic where there were complaints politics coming up with: "I was going to note that we have a rule about avoiding political discussions here as they can get so heated and unpleasant -- of course sometimes the political is so important to the release and the artist and the times that one can't explore those well without delving into the political dimensions (so within reason)".

Perhaps We could add to the album cover rules if M@x agrees:

    Strategically covered nudity
    Sheer or see-through clothing
    Lewd or provocative poses
Close-ups of breasts, buttocks, or crotches
    No pointing guns at babies

Now that was in bad taste by me, but then I find the cover in very bad taste. being so focused on nudity rather than violence does seem silly (the main issue is not the politics to me but instead violent, disturbing imagery). Those were brought in I believe due to google ads where google had a policy against such things which caused problems for the site. of course there are other things I would remove due to being offensive. If Ian wants to remove the cover, I won't complain (I am but one admin, and a reluctant one at that, and we do sometimes have different approaches and ideas).
Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I observed before. It can be much like that with music for me; immersed in experiencing the moment.

Thanks, Mayer. A couple of tracks differ by a second from Discogs, Bandcamp and this review of the album - but your timings are close enough, so done.
