It's a minority thing though. |

I make typos so you see I'm not a machine, but I may be a machine pretending to not be a machine.

24. HAWKWIND Masters of the Universe when it comes to the world of Space Brock, Hawkwind are led by Urban Guerrilla Dave Brock - the only constant member of the band - who busked on the streets of London in the late 1960's, performing an early acoustic version of Hurry on Sundown before having a Brainstorm and deciding to form Hawkwind (originally known as "Group X"), a band who've been committing Assault and Battery on our eardrums now for well over fifty years with their relentless Sonic Attack of pounding, pulsating music. Hawkwind has featured a revolving door line-up of players over the years with Lemmy (granite-faced leader of Motorhead) riding the Silver Machine to number three in the charts in 1972. South African born Robert Calvert leapt around the stage like a Demented Man in his lively performances as frontman of Hawkwind during most of the 1970's, although I suspect the mostly male audiences were there to see statuesque dancer Stacia Blake performing naked. Other notable members of the band over the years were Alan Davey, Nik Turner, Ginger Baker, Huw Lloyd Langton, set designer Barney Bubbles, lighting man Liquid Len and Dik Mik, who created various weird sound effects on his "audio generator". Hawkwind also had an unlikely partnership with sci-fi author Michael Moorcock, who wrote many of the band's spacey lyrics. In the Spirit of the Age, Dave Brock is still rocking on well into his eighties with four more recent Hawkwind albums released so far in the 2020's. The Future Never Waits, so who knows how many more Stories from Time and Space we still have left to look forward to. Smile

25. HENRY COW Legends in their own lunchtime, Henry Cow were an Avant Prog band led by Fred Frith and Tim Hodgkinson. They were were part of the Rock in Opposition (RIO) movement, where being musically challenging, commercially unappealing and generally unsuccessful were considered a a badge of honour. The complete polar opposite to Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift then. Personally speaking, I've had more fun rearranging my sock drawer than listening to a Henry Cow album, but they should appeal to fans of Frank Zappa, especially if you have a taste for discordant offbeat jazz.
