Neal Morse is th only good Christian rock artist. unless you count early King's x before dog pinnick came out, was debased by the christian right, and left his faith. I count their first three as Christian rock, and they are awesome. Styper were a gimmick band.

Livgren released Christian rock? Unless you're referring to them being Christian like The Doctor did with Sabbath? I haven't heard Livgren's material but i stand by my statement for now, as I have grown up with Christian rock blaring in my skull

Isn't Orphan Land Christian (Jewish?)? I get that impression reading reviews for Mabool.

I believe they are Jewish, but I base that solely on the fact that they are from Israel. The poin tis that an album about a religious event (i.e. the Great Flood) does not constitute true Christian rock IMO. Christian rock is all about praising Jesus and God, which Neal Morse does on all his albums except Sola Scriptura, which focuses on the event of the Protestant Reformation. IMO it is not a Christian rock album. Incidentally, it is also his best.

Narnia, eh? Let me guess, they take inspiration form C.s. lewis' religious musings? I'm surprised they didn't go with Screwtape Letters.

My original post was rather tongue-in-cheek, but I'm glad to see it's got some responses.

Of course Stryper was a gimmick band, that's what makes them so lovably cheesy.

As far as Black Sabbath, take a look at the lyrics to "After Forever", a blatantly christian song; "NIB", a warning against deals with the Devil: and "Into the Void", which I've always interpreted as a metaphor for the Rapture.

Must have been '85 or '86, the drummer in my band at the time bought some electronic drums from the drummer of Styrper. They were hideous and had the black and white stripes on them. I don't even remember who the maker was but they were not Simmons.

Which album did you get Chris?

Soldiers Under Command and To Hell With The Devil aren't bad.I liked them when they jammed, but their ballads are very cheesy and cringe-worthy.

I saw them live around 83-84 and they pelted the crowd with bibles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All I remember of Stryper is they looked bloody ridiculous, their guitarist was called Robert Sweet (?) and they had a dreadful song called 'Calling on you' Which sounded like Bon Jovi crossed with the Osmonds.

They were 'false metal' and as such, their albums should be ritually burned by coverns of Venom fans!
