"Noonward Race" is definitely a head exploding track! I remember the 1st time I heard Mahavishnu in '77...I had recently gotten into Crimso and still hadn't heard all the albums...a college radio station played Birds of Fire and I was convinced it was Fripp! Course, when I found out it was Mahavishnu that was cool cause it gave me another great band to check out  |
Yeah. J.M could seriously give Fripp a run for his money with guitar shredding and excessive noodling. That would be an absolute epic battle....ahhhh I can see it now 'Crimso Frippisim v.s Johnny Mahavishnu life at the coliseum!!!'

Hah, I listened to it a few days ago, may do so again now that I've just started at work! As you mentioned, a decent album, even if they're kind of just going through the motions. Heh, I really dig the second half of that opening track when it goes into the drum n bass workout!

It's a fun album! Has a lot of Aphex Twin like sounds to it. Kind of a Cornish acid/techno thing going on. Man. You can never label the Ozric's into one specific genre. Love their creative control and uniqueness. My favourite album is actually Waterfall Cites. That was really out there! Love the flute. :)

Nick, `Waterfall Cities' is my favourite too, and the first one I heard from them! Tom Ozric brought around his vinyl copy, and I was blown away by the artwork, even mroe amazed by the music. I ended up buying the CD of that one soon after. In fact, I'm lucky I've still got it, I just got it back days before splitting with an ex girlfriend....I didn't have the same luck with the Cardigan's album `Life', she's still got that one! I was pretty lucky back then to have a girlfriend who kind of dug some prog stuff! Ah, that rare breed!

Well no kidding!! You and I liking that one the most. Also, you've certainly have got to play some interesting hands with the ladies. Where do you find these female-prog appreciators? All the Prog concerts I go to hear in Toronto are absolutely dominated by men, although I do have a nine inch nails concert coming up on the 4th of oct, so I might have a shot at meeting my industrial goth queen.

Oh, lets not beat around the bush, Nick, the majority of the prog concerts I've attended have been total sausage-fests too! Well, except the Goblin ones, they had a surprising amount of women, and if I'd been in a better position, I definately would have made the effort. I remember joking with my friend at the time `Hey, this would be a great place to try and ask out a female Goblin'! Doesn't exactly sound the best, eh?! But that one I mentioned with the Ozrics CD actually liked a lot of modern prog, especially Porcupine Tree, I remember she saying she found them `sadly romantic'. I remember I scored a stack of Mahavishnu Orchestra LP's off her Dad too, he couldn't believe I was fascinated by prog music! Another GF I actually met in a record shop...I know, that's the dream, yeah?! Sigh, all ancient history now!

Anyway, your exgirlfriend's dad could not believe you liked prog? You should have said, 'well, I can't believe I like your daughter!' then grab the records out of his hands. Lol I'm kidding, but that is a great story. Quite a history you've had.
As for Ozrics. Yeah, Tom seems like the man when it comes to them. He knows his stuff indeed. Also, I really do love the Artwork on WaterCities as well, but I think 'Curious Corn' is a slight step up. Love that castle of a house on the mountain side peering over all the mountains and lush greens. It's a thing of beauty. Good album too!

Oh, I definately haven't had that exciting a `history', and certainly not that much luck, especially considering things have just wrapped up for good with `She Who Shall Not Be Named' lol!
