The joy of early Beard was an ability to digest the early 70's prog greats, and do some good fusions of these whilst having a touch of originality. Kindness Of Strangers (IMHO) has the greatest level of originality but the subsequent Snow killed it for me - I listened to the first 40minutes of the promo spotting where they had lifted a riff or a style of rock playing

I liked early Beard albums,later they became just "same again" for me.

When listen separately,Trout Mask Replica's songs don't sound such ... quirky. When listen all album at once,it works more seriously

The quirkiness works better on the albums immediately after - eg for radio play
