So why didn't he go with the 2008 edition....... Didn't It Bites on splitting part become Robert Plant's backing band

^Yes, it's total madness. They are doing OK without him so he could be cashing in on that. Having said that I'd heard yesterday it's a hack on his site, but it's still up there...

And that's definitely a mellotron in the background.

The production on that Metallica album is diabolical, it's painful to listen to it for a great length of time. Having said that, it's really not the 'return to form' some were suggesting in my opinion..either that or I'm not that into  metal anymore!

I saw Pentangle in July, they were great- sounded as good as they ever did. I bought this album £3 in Fopp a while back, they had almost all the Pentangle/Jansch/Renbourn titles for that price.

My colleague summed it up as an album of

Shred, shred more shred, a few lines of pointless lyrics shred shred shred, more of the same quality of lyrics, shred shred shred etc.

That's a fair description of most contemporary metal, to be honest- much of it's a tune-free zone!

^ I would not say it's like that...
not their best album, but certainly a return to decent music (not sure about lyrics...)

I must admit hardly knowing the band's music (perhaps only through the new one) I have no idea what "form" is in the context. I know having borrowed I not Likely to go buying

The Daily Telegraph said it was the best metal album of the new millennium. Nothing worse than broadsheet critics commenting on something they know nothing about, as they never usually touch metal with a bargepole.

Tony's electric playing has really deteriorated over the years (check out YouTube for any number of clips) but oddly his acoustic playing has not IMHO. Can't explain that one!

Did you see John Lydon's recent advertisement for butter? That was really cringeworthy.

I think Tony Mc has simply got pissed off playing the old Groundhog favourites - he even entitled an album in the 90's something like:  Who Requested Cherry Red? I  saw him at Leicester DeMontford 3 summers ago and disappointed how short his set was on acoustic.

Haha yeah, 'Who Said Cherry Red'. You might be right, he has been stuck with the same electric set for many years and that must be hard, trotting out the same nearly 40 year old tunes, night after night.

That PiL track was good.

As a Chicago fan of old I've borrowed/seen a couple of DVDs of the modern line-up. They trotted out the old pre Shag 6 material, and have all the look boredom in their faces, doing it in their sleep. Trouble is the American fan base seems to lap it all up instead demanding some attention. The Chicago By Request DVD is abysmal - Robert lamb's first vocal note on that is flat too. I admit the Earth Fire Wind with Chicago at Greek theatre is fun, especially when both bands play together 25 or 6 to 4 - but there Chicao have a challenge to stay awake.

Blimey, Earth Wind and Fire are still going? I quite like some of their old hits. Chicago I don't like much after the first few albums.

Yes this was my request, Thanks Dick.
