While the Allman Bros are my favorite all time SR band. I must say the the Atlanta Rhythm Section is second. These guys were smooth as silk and had a guitar player in Barry Bailey that could play with anybody. Don't jump to conclusions at least not before you give them a second listen. Then object if you will but not before you give these guys a second listen...

Levon is awesome as is the band! Bob Dylan's
Basement Tapes with The Band is a rock classic,
though The Band should not be quite so
represented in the 2cd release, the 5 CD session is
a epic in the foundation of Rock n Roll!

The Basement Tapes contain some of Bob's
cleverists moments on tape!

I seriously think The Last Waltz is pretty much the best concert film ever done. Of course I love anything by Marty Scorcese. As film directors go, I think he's the bees knees.

The Black Crowes hands down. Their "Amorica" and "Southern Harmony..." albums are classic, and underappreciated...
Marmalade...I like marmalade.

i've never really looked at the black crowes as being a southern rock band, but they are great. chris robinson has such an amazing voice and amorica is a GREAT album.

if you haven't seen the black crowes live, don't miss out!! i've seen them twice and they do NOT disappoint.

PS i still voted for the allman brothers.

Gah... I can't stand most southern rock. But I like a few Black Crowes songs. I never really considered them a southern rock band though.

I'll divide my answer into two categories:

1) 70's southern rock... It's actually a tie between Skynrd and the Allmans for me. Improv jams, Allmans win hands down. I think Skynrd had better songs though, so I voted for them.

2) "New wave" southern rock... Black Crowes take this one, no contest.

Skynyrd. I like the Allman Bros. alot too. In general Im not a huge fan of Southern rock, but if Im having a few beers shooting pool or something, some old Skynyrd sounds good. Also the Outlaws' "Green Grass and High Tides" is an awesome track.

The Dregs are often labled a Southern band just from a geographic standpoint but their music is light years ahead of most other Southern rock bands.

The Allman Brothers are my all time favorite band of any genre. They pretty much got me into rock music. Anyway, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker Band, ZZ Top and Little Feat I like as well. One great southern rock band this poll is missing is The Drive By Truckers.

If anyone knows where I can get a copy of some Flute and Voice (Indo-Prog/Raga Rock) albums please PM me! Many thanks!

BLACK CROWES

I'm proud to have been following this incredible band from the beginning. My favourite album is "Amorica". A truly masterpiece for me.

I also like The Allman Bros. very much.

I voted Lynyrd Skynyrd, mainly for Freebird and  Simple Man, but  it was a tough pick over the Allman Brothers
