Received from across the pond yesterday.........Mastered at a low volume is my only complaint, this due to the number of minutes on each side. The live mix is excellent and the pressing quality is excellent as all PG records are, this one is also half-speed mastered. I may have to order his other live album also, I've read its even better than Secret World and PG Live..but I am glad to have this on LP finally!!

^SWEET ! I gotta ask...how much did the Gabriel set you back? (including shipping) Do you have a preferred vendor for LP's or do you just search around? |

I pre-ordered two of the live albums when they were announced, I got Plays Live and Secret World, I'm thinking of buying Live in Athens, I've read that one is excellent. The only issue with Secret World is its mastered at a low volume level, so gotta use your volume knob. I normally listen at about 10 o'clock position, this one need to turn up to about midnight, just depends on the gain of your amp. I bought these from PG website (Real World Store) they were spendy due to the frt from across the pond......£33.00 dlvd to my house in 'Merica, they come with 24bit digital download which is nice. I think Secret World is still same price, even a bit more on Discogs sellers now pushing £40-45.00. Live in Athens is cheaper I see about US30.00 shipped. PG albums hold value very well. If not artists website then my go to is: LaserCD (lots of prog at good prices) Music Direct (Usually can find coupons online) Tower Records (Cheap prices for rock albums) BlueNote Store (all my jazz and I wait for their 20-30% off sales) Burning Shed (spendy due to frt) Discogs

Nooooo . That's too spendy for a new release unless it is some super nice box set like 4-6LP version. I paid US110 when PT~Anesthetize came out in 2011 that is 4-LP set and now worth $250.00. Most I spent for a used record was US70.00 PT~Signify original issue on Delerium label 1996 and its a PORKY PRIME CUT, worth US140 now. I just saw on the Amazon site Secret World for US23.99!! Send me your credit card info and I'll buy you one

I now own one of my most sought after records. Now I got Awake, Images and Distance Over Time, now someone sell me Six Degrees, Scenes and Dramatic Turn Of Events! Perhaps Santa will drop off that new live album this year Edited by dougmcauliffe - November 24 2020 at 17:17 |

Yea its a great album if u ask me.....Here is mine bought 2014 I don't have Distance Over Time, the most recent albums are not very good sound wise. They are not mastered well for vinyl, they are just OK. Especially ADToE and DT12....The older albums that were released on vinyl for first time are done really well like Awake, ToT, 6 Degrees, Octavarium and Scenes is pretty good. Some older ones are mastered at Sterling Sound, very good! The positive is that most have dbl in value since I bought them since not in print anymore. Wow, just looked on Discogs and did not realize some are as expensive as they are $100+ for Scenes....nice!

I def recommend DOT on vinyl, it sounds a lot better than any of other versions i've heard and actually sounds pretty darn good. I can't speak for ADTOE, DT12 or the Astonishing, but those albums, especially the latter 2 just don't have half decent production in the first place.

What seems to be the case with DT records is the ones pressed in US are not very good, you can see some of the comments on Discogs. Whereas the ones pressed at Optimal Media in EU people claim sound really good..I am a huge fan of Optimal Media pressing plant I think they do a brilliant job, pretty much everything I have from them is perfect pressing and cutting is great. I see that DOT was F'up because the band decided to issue like 12 different colored versions of vinyl...But if I can find a decent priced EU version maybe I will get it. Unless I get it for free I'll never buy Astonishing on LP, simply because I'll never listen to it 8-sides of krapp!! My one regret is not buying I&W when it was issued couple yrs ago.

Always wonderful to see your Jazz purchases, José The good thing about being pressed by Optimal Media is that it's not overpriced in Europe. I'll have to look into these

Thanks Sam!! These BlueNote issues are amazing, they are some of my best sounding records. They are all mastered from the original Rudy Van Gelder tapes from the 60s by Kevin Gray and Optimal does a brilliant job in pressing. They are not expensive at all, Blue Note regularly has 20% off sales and these I bought at 30% off for Black Friday special, about $17.00ea Go to Youtube and search for "Tone Poet Audiophile Vinyl Reissue Series" and there is a 9min video with Don Was and Joe Harley and Kevin Gray, discussing the TonePoet series and BlueNote 80 series. The difference is TonePoet series is more expensive as they are gatefold and pressed at RTI in US, I prefer the BlueNote 80 series pressed by Optimal, both are mastered by Kevin. I do have a couple TonePoet series.....I can't embed the YT video for some reason? |

I was aware of the Tone Poet series, but the price was seriously off-putting. The 80 series is very affordable though. Guess I'll go Jazz shopping soon Fascinating video too, let me embed it here: |

Thanks Sam............I was doing the same embed but it would not post it for me. Guess I suck today Here the TonePoet are about $35.00, the 80 series about $24 normally. Like I said I wait till they do sales. I just saw they extended the 30% off all vinyl today, prices are $25-$17..........Might have to buy more!! |

Arrived, finally after some pressing delays.
The 3-LP/2-CD package is excellent, comes in a slipcase with 1 gatefold holding LP1&2 and a single sleeve holding LP3, the CDs come in a plastic sleeve. The gatefold has all the lyrics and other liner notes with different band pictures on back covers. The pressing quality is stellar, these are done by Optimal Media in Germany who is one of the best IMO, everything I get from them is as perfect as can be with no surface issues no noise at all, a flea fart makes louder noise than what I hear in between tracks. The mix and mastering is very good to really really good, I can't say excellent as Roine still is not at a Steven Wilson, Bernie Grundman or Kevin Gray level. He's still doing a bit too much digital processing, but so far these records sound fantastic. |
