100% against pop as well, but "different strokes for different folks" I suppose.

What's the deal with K00l Prog Guruz anyway? No offense man, but it's odd to have a Phil Collins fan in a prog forum.

Yup, you guys are right saying pop is no good, though I even have more problems with rap and mainstream punk... There are a few pop-bands which are acceptable, but they never reach the level of prog music obviously. And it's just not art at all .....

My son is eleven and likes the hard rock portion of my collection. He loves, Zeppelin. Me thinks he has pretty good taste. He does not get into real prog though, his response to YES is that the songs are "too long". I suppose that goes with his age b/c anything that takes too long is not on his list of things to do. I think I may be able to get him into prog in a few more years.

My stepdaughter on the other hand has recently become interested in country and western music. It is a hard decision, but I think I hate country worse than pop. I don't see her ever liking prog, but who knows. Things change.

I think the newer country type music is probably worse than pop.  The lyrics are more inane ten times over(i.e. "She thinks my tractor is sexy","I got a barbecue stain on my white t-shirt", "Cuz it's the American way to put a boot in their ass") all these lyrics are incredibly idiotic and have no musical or vocal talent to back 'em up.  They right about things no one should care about.  It's redneck music

Advice to Raymon7174- get your son presence. It's the most progressive Zeppelin album, and since your son is already a Zeppelin fan, it's probably the best choice. It also has 2 long songs on it, one of which is "Achilles Last Stand", a song no one can become bored of. I've listened to that album well over 20 times in the last 3 days (no exaggeration, I jsut sleep less) and I still love it.

I'm a teenage prog fan too by the way. Pink Floyd was my first love when I saw the wall at age 6 or 7, and I loved it even though it scared the hell out of me.

Rob The Plant, I have already given my son Presence and Runes. He likes them both and has said he loves Presence.

I may try to get him into Rush's "Moving Pictures". How could a Jimmy Page fan not appreciate Lifeson.

Moving Pictures is an excellent choice.  That album will definitely get your son into Prog: The Most Enlightening Form Of Music In The History Of Music!!!

Well "Achilles Last Stand" bores me, almost as much as "Caraselambra" (did I spell that right?).  I do like most Zeppelin, though.

I've found that the best way to get kids into cool music is to just play it around them.  Although they're not all prog (I'm not a strict prog-head), my kids like bands like Rush, The Soft Boys, The Small Faces, The Who, The Beatles, The Pretty Things, The Flaming Lips, Pink Floyd, and The Kinks.  My oldest son (15) still likes Eminem and Blink 182, but I feel his tastes are much better and more open minded than most of the kids he goes to school with.
