Genesis, easily. Rush is lacking progressivity to me, I mean richness .

I believe Genesis is the most popular prog group in PA. End of polls.

I especially love post-Gabriel Genesis up through the 1983 album, but I have many more listening hours of Rush logged in.

I have to say that they will both live on into eternity, because they both embody the essence of what makes the greatest music last into the ages.
I was a Rush fanatic before Genesis, after seeing Rush in 1978 Hemispheres tour at the International Amphitheatre in Chicago, I was hooked , Then Neil Peart was on a Radio Show afterward where he said that he was into Jazz music, and that he was not in the same league with the greatest Jazz drummers, I did not understand at that time, until years later , having seen Genesis live , and seeing it happen nightly, whereas Rush did not have the consistency , and then I realized what Neil was talking about when it comes to the world's greatest drummers. It was also interesting later that while Phil collins was scheduled to produce Buddy Rich's new solo album, it did not come to pass because Buddy died before they could. It is also Ironic that then when a tribute was done to Buddy, Phil produced it, and Neil hosted it.

Rush isn't a real prog band per se--it's a rock band with prog overtones.

I love both bands but Genesis are my absolute favorite band, so easy vote for me.

I will add to the Genesis lead here, not that they need my help.

Rush turned out way more prolific over the expansive decades.....and for me no bands sound as similar to Genesis as Rush did.....Genesis only by their output of 70-83 and then Rush took over with even more wonderful albums whilst the Genesis flame withered.

Genesis is brilliance, for a decent portion of their catalog, they are my #2.
Rush is far more consistent, more meticulous of their craft...In many ways Rush is its own music genre. The Rush group chemistry is the best, not sure there is a band of the past 25+ yrs that comes close to what they have. Rush |
