I don't know if you guys consider this to be much of an issue, but a significant number of albums have been added to the site by various members well before their release dates, and consequently without any track times (often with incomplete credits info too). This wouldn't be a problem if those members were able to subsequently go back and finish these entries off properly when the full details became available, but they can't (and most likely they wouldn't bother to do so even if they did have the necessary access permissions). I came across nine such albums just the other day during one of my FLAC searches on Google, and will post them here - along with the missing track times - in due course.

So, would it be possible maybe for your FLAC sniffer program to be adapted so that it could identify all the album pages in the database where no 'Total Time' line exists below the track list? This would automatically include all the albums where there were no track times whatsoever included (many albums exist that do have individual track times included but no total time at the bottom, which isn't quite such a problem tbf, though I'm guessing it would be a lot harder to adapt the program to specifically seek out just the albums with no individual track times).

If it was possible to identify all these albums and post a list of them here, then any member who so wished could go away and find the necessary info, before posting it back here ready for you guys to fix.
That's a neat idea, but a HUGE proje(K)ct!!!

Thanks to you there is one less in "the list" (album no. 70340), but there are still...

16257 albums with no Total Time!!!

It's 25% of the whole database!

Where do we begin? Ermm

Second one: http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=64788 - No track times, and title of the album is just "Lost Connection".

See: https://www.fughu.com/releases/lost-connection/ and https://open.spotify.com/album/5URFVK30Tm7iTteMxNORkg.

1. Peggy (5:30)
2. Pixel Hero (5:49)
3. Call Now! (5:02)
4. Stay (5:25)
5. The Goat (5:30)
6. Told You (7:51)
7. Right from the Bone (3:22)
8. Martian (4:50)
9. What If (7:42)
10. Vexed Flower (4:35)

Total Time 55:36

Shocked

Two less when you've done this one...but OMG!!! Shocked

Can you narrow it down somehow to just the ones without individual track times? Those are the ones that most need dealing with imho.

Edit 2: It would probably still be a huge list even if you managed to narrow it down. All those early additions that you listed above have no individual track times, and at least half the recent ones too. A bridge too far, methinks.

It's almost an impossible task then. Even if we were to round up about 20 volunteers to help us out, that's almost 500 albums each to find the info for. It would probably take the best part of a year even if there was no loss of resolve, and past experience suggests that enthusiasm for projects such as this tends to be rather short lived. Let's see what a few others have to say on the matter, not least Eugene!

Are you able to edit the title to just "Lost Connection"? It seems there is no "The" in the title. Embarrassed

I agree, handle almost 10 000 albums would be too much monkey business. And every day the number is growing. If Mayer always posts info here and some collabs update their additions, the majority doesn't care.

I propose to check with Julien's weapon how many albums have:
1. empty track lists
2. empty line-ups
3. empty release info
and then decide what's next.

I hope the tool is able (or it needs some programming) to detect not only fields (windows) with 0 symbols inside, but the ones containing only empty lines as well.

Another helpful search would be by keyword "duplication" (to detect albums sentenced to death but forgotten for some reason).

^ Mmm, I'm pretty proud of my new tool! Now I can answer your questions...

1. empty track lists: 59 albums
2. empty line-ups: 2443 albums
3. empty release info: 4928 albums
4. with the word "duplication": 4 albums

^ ^ I guess it's become an impossible situation for PA with so many artists now included on the site, and thus generating an ever-increasing avalanche of new albums that need adding. There's no way that collaborators alone could handle that volume of work, but allowing any registered member to add albums to the site totally unchecked has sadly resulted in the situation we have now. Even if it were possible to get a team of volunteers together to work their way through this huge build-up of incomplete album additions, the exercise would be somewhat pointless unless a system was devised that diverted all future new album additions by PA members to a 'pending approval' section where the details could be checked by approved collaborators before the albums were finally added to the site for public viewing. That task alone would probably be an impossible amount of work for our collaborators, never mind the task of finding out the info for and fixing all the existing incomplete entries that have built up here over the years.

It'll be interesting to see what Julien's tool is able to reveal regarding those empty fields, duplications, etc that you mentioned above, and even more interesting to learn what's next!

Edit: Too slow writing my post! Julien's tool works much faster than I do! That's quite some piece of code you have there sir! Approve Clap

Thanks, Julien.

One album has to die:
http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=5719 - has 7 reviwes.
http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=16132 is its twin brother (0 reviews), deleted by admins.

http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=15422 - has similar entry, both are reviewed, some authors most likely unavailable, nothing we can do about them.

http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=46711 - has the track 1. Duplication of the World (6:55), not guilty, let it lives. Smile

^ Thanks, Julien, sorted.

I'll take care othese ones:
http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=2838 - contacted the reviewer
http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=2848 - ------------ '' -------------

http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=43692 - belongs to another band, deleted by admins

The rest are either from previous list or innocent (released by Duplicate Records, contain "duplicate" word or its variations in songs' or album titles).
I wonder do artists calling their songs "Duplication" so naive that they seriously expect to be successful? LOL
Or all good titles already used by the giants?

EDIT 6.02.2021 - review reposted, asked admins to delete duplication.

Any ideas?

^^ Yeah, now I remember.

About http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=6892 maybe the NOTE could be clearer, or less "agressive". What do you think?

And to answer your question about my tool being able to detect fields with empty lines: sure it can! We call it "white space".

I go even further for detecting albums with no lineup. From the 2443 albums in this list, 364 have the classic - Name / guitars - Name / drums lineup... Angry

For example:

P.S. (NAP) I mark here handled albums with strikethrough font.
