`Perilous' is pretty damn good, Sam, but I was discussing it with Tom Ozric a few hours ago, and I find Jon Davison's voice gets a little too high-pitched and annoying in a few spots for my liking! The album seems awfully long as well, although it's still a single CD, so I don't think it can be much longer than the previous two Davison-led discs. But I definitely prefer those. After you mentioned `Cor Cordium' the other day, it reminded me that Id never given that as much of a listen as the previous `If' one, and it really is superb. OK, so vocal section of `Salvation Station' is a bit cheesy, but the instrumental bits are still kick-ass. `Nothing Box' is a knockout, one of my absolute favourite Hammer tracks. Sadly I think I relate to the lyric a bit too much on that one as well! As for the Roach one, I think you may want to stay away from it. It's even less eventful than the previous one, looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong sections where not much happens at all (for like ten or fifteen minutes at a time), and when it starts to become a bit more psychedelic/drowsy, etc, it's just `more of the same' that has appeared on his last few albums. I wrote a very fairly rubbish 3 star review for it, I do like it and found it immersive, but he's released far superior works than this one. If it was half the length it would be much better. 73 minutes of nothing much happening really tests the friendship! By all means grab that free download, because I'd be interested to see how long you last! |

If and Cor Cordium are really nice albums, there are the obvious Yes influences but I think they managed to create their own identity on those. I can't talk about the lyrics though
And I thought the first one already tested the friendship I only listened the whole thing because it was great with the video game I was playing |

I think `If' would be perfect if it didn't have that kind of quirky and silly `Behold the Ziddle!' track (the second track)! On it's own it's a very imaginative piece, has a kind of wacky colourful humour to it and some terrific instrumental passages, but it's totally at odds with everything else on the album! My guilty secret (whisper it!) is that I left that track off when I transferred the CD to my Ipod, and the album flows much better now! `Cor Cordium' still has plenty of original ideas, it's not just ssome lazy Yes clone despite many dismissing it as such because of the singing...that album has a lot of longer, thoughtful sections that take their time to develop, and I really like it when Glass Hammer do that. `Perilous' onwards (with `Ode to Echo' and `The Breaking of the World' too) have a lot more frantic, quick changes and different directions racing about over and over, which they are still good at, but I like those more emotional builds, the slowly developing pieces more. Sorry, kind of rambled on there, buddy! I'm off to bed! |

STEVEN WILSON - The Raven That Refused To Sing
...........and this came after I spun KAJAGOOGOO's White Feather album for my sister. And I gotta say that Nick Beggs was already a pretty wicked bassist at this stage. Limahl was pretty cool, I must confess |

Flamborough Head Tales of Imperfection
Le Orme Collage Pink Floyd A Saucerful of Secrets Gentle Giant s/t P.F.M Miss Baker (urgh, 1987 studio album, awful smooth AOR with show-pony singing, but the playing is still great) P.F.M Paper Charms (disc 1) Live 21st March 1975 Steve Roach Soul Tones Vangelis Heaven and Hell - Some of the choir gets a little exhausting, but there is such a beautiful passage with Jon Anderson that closes the first side, and some of the flip-side is really intense and warped! |

Awe man. So much to comment on from the last 2 pages of this awesome thread, but I guess the really shocking thing that jumped out at me is that Tom Ozric listens to Meshuggha?
Damn that's awesome. :) (Michael) that Jon Anderson vocal passage in heaven and hell gets me every time dude. One of his finest moments. David (Guldbamsen) thank you for being you. Lol but seriously if that "mountain" album by Morse is just another rain dance in sola scriptura land then I probably need not to explore that album, even though I find sola scriptura bloody awesome. All in all. Happy Easter to all of you. Easter weekend.... Marillion-- seasons end Dave Bainbridge--Celestial fire Magenta--the 27 club Elliot goedenthal--Alien 3 motion picture soundtrack score Pendragon--Introducing Pendragon (disc 1) Alan parsons project--Live versions (extended) DELAIN-The human contradiction Marillion--Strange engine ( that goddam Balalaika. ^ Hey Nick !
I'm not full-on into Messhugah, but to listen to this style is quite novel to me. I'm not a fan of death-growl, but I think I've acquired one the finest example of Proggy Tech-Metal there is with 'I'. And it's a 2014 remaster on vinyl, with some cool things on side 2. Yesterday I heard my sister's KAJAGOOGOO album - Nick Beggs is fast becoming another bass-God(ess !!) currently. Apart from the out-n-out 80's plasticiary, the fashion statement, there was a major-league player here that flew under my radar. And I watched the VH1 doco of getting the band back together after 20 years - they're a bunch of really likeable guys and I have gained a lot of respect for them as musicians. Dunno what's gonna be on the rotating platter today - maybe Grace For Drowning, LIFESIGNS, Hackett - something with Beggs. |

Hey Sagi, is this the Dragon album you mean?!
I love that one! The vocals are pretty terrible, but what an album! |

^ That's the one buddy, an Australian band?
Well of course the vocals are not the main attraction here, although honestly I didn't think they were awful. I've heard far worse singing before (The band Deja Vu comes to mind here, excellent album with hideous vocals that ruins the whole album for me) but yeah Dragon has a great little album with a lot of good ideas, I especially love that first track, you can say I was hooked immediately because of it. Mike BTW do you know that Luciano Basso album? |

No no, my friend, this is a different Dragon! I think they were from Belgium? There IS an Australian Dragon band (who apparently had one or two proggier albums at the very start of their career), but they became a top-40, commercial FM radio kind of band. A staple of instore supermarket music as well!
I guess the vocals are...amateur rather than terrible! They do have a kind of dorky charm to them! Nope, don't know that Basso one at all, recommended? |
