Riverside – Day Session
Big Big Train – Wassail (I’m not totally in love with this group like a lot of others are, but what a great EP)
Arabs in Aspic – Strange Frame of Mind
Satin Whale – Desert Places (still a damn classic to my ears!)
Satin Whale – A Whale of a Time (urgh, mostly AOR pop/rock...)
Progenesi – Ulisse: L’Alfiere Nero
Sanhedrin – Ever After
Spock’s Beard – s/t

^ How do you like Lost Mankind by Satin Whale? I recall it being on the same level as Desert Places.

Hey Gary, I think it's the next best one, but that was where they introduced the female backing vocalists that pretty much stayed with the band from that point on, which I wasn't a fan of.

Have you heard the third album `As a Keepsake'? That was a lot more commercial, but still great playing with a few great tracks. But still, not a patch on the first two.

^ Yes, I have As A Keepsake and you're exactly right about it.
After that I bought Whalecome in 1978 which is a very good 2xLP live album.
A few German bands put out 2xLP live albums in the seventies and they all had pretty good sound.

Thelonious Monk - Monk's Dream (Great album, but I find annoying the vocals on background. It's probably Monk singing what he's playing on piano :/ )

You know, Nick, it's strange. I have the two volumes/four discs of the `Keys to Ascension' albums, and I NEVER think to play the live discs anymore (even though I did a heap when I first got them), I just spin the studio discs - which are damn decent anyway!
)

The live recording for the keys to ascension box set is tad bright on Jon Anderson's vocals. I guess the engineer should have slapped a D--S-R on his vox.   . A tad harsh on the sibilance and the cymbal crashes are a bit too metallic at times and bloated in the overall mix; however despite the audio imperfections what a box set!! Great set list, emotionally engaging and Rick w-a-n-k-m-a-n is really on his game.
I think for December I will buy Progeny for a Christmas present to myself. It would really seal off my YES collection.

Overall I say at least play 'the turn of the century track'; In fact play all of disc 3. It's my favourite one. :)

What a great listen!! It's nice to see, Gary, that someone other than myself is listening to this band.
A great fates warning inspired Prog metal band. I also tried to get them into PA here by suggesting them to the Prog metal team but they decided oddly that "while heaven wept' didn't exhibit enough Progressivo traits and that they sounded more like a straight up metal band than anything else.
I still do one of these. Lol.

Don't get me wrong, Sam! Of course the Steven Wilson album is superb! The guy has never put out even a remotely average product in his career, and this will clean up all around Prog votes as album of the year. The problem for me is that there was no surprise to it - I knew it would be good, it's another totally reliable Wilson release from a superb artist. But because it was always going to be good, I have no excitement about it. I listen to it and think `Yepm that Wilson's a talent alright', but it doesn't truly excite me. I can think of dozens of albums this year that have interested be more. Hell, even something kind of disappointing like the new Riverside seenms more exciting than it, because they took more of a chance to try something that wasn;t simply offering more of the same and playing to their strengths.

I also doesn't help that I know several people (some on my Facebook too! who go on and on about it as if it's the only progressive rock album worth any attention this year. I call bullsh*t on that!

^ It's probably difficult to come up with something original after he explored so many sides of Prog Tongue I don't think it will be on my top 10 either, but it did get better after the concert, especially watching the band playing "Routine" with that new video playing on the background... I won't say I didn't shed a tear Cry I think the main problem with the new album is the very clean production compared to the previous albums, it's more difficult to connect with the music, in my opinion.

They don't know what they're talking about Confused I know that can be annoying, just like seeing so many overexciting posts about that new Barock Project album... it has the opposite effect on me Wacko
