I heard of them, but never got to listen anything by them yet.
I guess that thanks to Power I became a huge Steve Morse fan. He's on my top 5 guitarists list.

OK, I suppose that, as one of the site's few females, it's now my turn to welcome our new gal! I'm at work now, the connection is the worst I've experienced in the past few years, and don't have a lot of time... Anyway, a very warm welcome to Lizzy, and a word of warning to her: after hanging around this site for a while, you could find yourself married and moved to another countryLOL. This is what happened to me, at least - not that I complainWink!

Haha! Thanks!
I think the title of the thread was appealing as you don't get that everyday on PA.LOL and they don't even teach us manipulation techniques at Political Science.LOL
Anyhow... I am here to learn! And by golly! there's quite a lot to learn!

There is.  I've learned more about interesting music to listen to from this site in a day than I had in a year or more before I found it.
Yes, I discovered that there is prog in death metal, in hardcore, in electronica and maybe next in hip hop (well, candiria is halfway between hardcore and hip hop and they are in PA).

Hi Lizzy! Welcome to the site. You're lucky, I've never seen "Welcome newbies" thread that got five pages in a day Tongue

Cool to see you enjoy Magma, one of the greatest bands here, in my opinion, but you have lots to discover.
And lots of money to loose, expect that LOL

yes, indeed, prog albums are VERY expensive (which is not always justified) that's why I rarely buy any, unless I can find used copies at a reasonable price.

And when you're looking for the real rarities, the LPs can cost a fortune (but they also commonly increase in value).  Thanks to a  flood, I lost a fortune in LPs. I don't like CDs much but appreciate the convenience of mp3s and the like.

But that particular case was weird because she thought First Utterance was cool and not scary at all, yet 'Hortz Fur Dëhn Stekëhn West' was 'oh, that's freaking me out, man!' - and not with the hippy meaning!LOL Maybe she was intimidated by the use of Kobaïan.

People that I introduce Magma to start thinking I am into some sort of a cult or something (they later caught me listening to Yes' Ritual.... and now they are convinced...) .... but if you really want to scare people just play Dun's Eros (amazing Zehul album...my favorite) and before the second note you can see fear in people's eyes .

Anyways... welcome!!!!

obligatory question: what do you think about ELP?

it is always nice to "meet" young prog fans such as myself (no offense to older prog veterans )... ...and a girl that enjoys Magma, Tull, Yes and Kansas... now this is rare!!!

But of course. Here we have one female prog fan who admits to revelling in the art of Zeuhl - a variety of progressive music about as attractive to the average woman as "The Bold and the Beautiful" is to the average guy.

A natural consequence is that the guys will start circling. Kinda like a flock of starved vultures suddenly coming across a possible meal just about big enough for one of them ;-)

Welcome! I refrained myself from posting here until I figured out what is it that I like so much about your posts, and I can't keep it to myself: your avatar! I love Mr. Devlin, he was one of the greatest characters populating my TV hours in my early years Tongue
