That's incredible, Brian.  I would never make it through today's education system.  Never.  Some of the things my nieces tell me as well (they are 14 and 16), just boggle the mind.

With 10 counts against him and the guy pleading guilty it sounds like he's getting life without the possibility of parole.

Actually, not that much. LOL If you watch the American major news media, it basically is a few headlines followed by human interest stories, celebrity titillation, and sports.  Just another reason the country is so screwed up.
