I haven't heard of The Thick of It but I will definitely look it up.I love Alan Partridge and really liked British politcal shows like Yes Minister and yes Prime Minister so thanks for the recommendation!

Never heard of Rev either, that will be added to my list.

American tv is just boring me lately, the only sitcom I like is The Big Bang Theory and shows like Dexter,Boardwalk Empire and Psych.

Some of the Adult Swim shows you mentioned are quite good, especially Children's Hospital.I detest anything Tim & Eric do but that's just my personal opinion.

Have you checked out The Thick of It, Jody? Personally, I think that's the finest sitcom to come from these shores in a while, but it's not to everyone's tastes. Firstly, it's got some very strong language (always used very creatively and to great comic effect, mind you) and because it's set in the world of British politics it might seem a bit of an alien setting at first. It's created by Armando Iannucci, one of the driving forces behind the likes of The Day Today and Alan Partridge, so the quality is naturally very high indeed.

Another recent UK sitcom that's definitely worth checking out is Rev. The central character is a Church of England vicar running a poorly attended inner-city church and it's a lot more realistic than other religious-based sitcoms like Father Ted or the rather naff (in my opinion anyway) Vicar of Dibley.

Sadly, in recent years I think the US has actually been wiping the floor with us when it comes to producing decent comedy. What with Community, Tim and Eric, Louie, Archer, Parks and Recreation, Children's Hospital, The Venture Bros., Delocated, etc. it seems like America is producing way more intelligent, innovative and downright reliably hilarious comedy than us Brits. It's kinda depressing.

^^^^^^^

LOL

I love Clunes, especially in Men Behaving Badly.

As for your comments about Barrie as the Doctor,I can see where you are coming from.I have never seen him play a straight role(if he ever has).

Recently watching the end credits of Doc Martin I noticed a reference to Saving Grace - a film by Craig Fergerson (yeah, the Late Late Show host) tha the TV series is based on, so I checked it out - not a bad little film, though the character of Doc Martin as played by Clunes in the film is very different from the TV series. Bill Bailey (Black Books) appears in the film (and has also appeared in Doctor Who).

...oh, forgot - Marin Clunes also appeared in Doctor Who

...wanna refute the b-movie tag now?

I'm glad they didn't. I think Matt Smith is the finest Doctor since Tom Baker, and possibly ever.

While I don't think he's the best ever,Smith is very, very good.Baker rules in my book though.
Smith and (Tom) Baker were "made" by the role, whereas all the other actors who've played the doctor were already semi-famous beforehand - that's not a criticism as such, Smith is excellent (Baker less so IMO but by no means the worse).

I don't think Barrie would have been a good choice, I think he would have hammed it up too much - The Doc is best played straight and I don't think Barrie does straight very well. I prefered the idea of Sean Pertwee taking the role, or perhaps Patrick Troughton's grandson Sam Troughton.
What?

Highly recommended.Along with the other shows Graham Linehan created that I mentioned like Black Books(Dylan Moran is brilliant) and Father Ted(absolutely essential,a classic).

Have all three series on dvd mate.Anything Linehan does is gold.IT Crowd,Black Books and Father Ted are brilliant.

How about series 4? Shame he has ended it. Just one more special episode and that's it.

We have the 4th series burned, but not the set.I didn't know Linehan ended it,that's a shame. But O'Dowd is doing movies,Ayodade is starting to get some film roles and Parkinson is everywhere these days(really like here on Doc Martin).

I think she started Doc Martin (I love this too) before IT Crowd.

I love Outnumbered.

They started showing it here on PBS on Saturday night and we really dig it.I'm thinking about ordering the first series.Dennis and Skinner are wonderful, but the kids sometimes steal the show.I read that a large part of the show is improvised,is that true?

Yes. There is a general plot but the kids largely improvise to make it more natural

When it was rumoured that David Morrisey would get the part I was so pleased. he would have been a brilliant Doctor as his appearence as the false Doctor proved.
