For anyone in Scandinavia (remove if not appropriate, I wasn´t able to post in the live-section, sorry):

COMUS play Oslo May 23rd, they´re first appearance in Norway. Along with Tusmørke, Purple Hill Witch, Dromedar, Nils Økland, Espen Jørgensen, Alwanzatar.. (All folk, psych, metal, drone-related, if not prog.)

Venue is Chateau Neuf, the same stage that had Änglågård, Anekdoten, Landberk, and many more, in the 90s.

I've listened to some songs from them, I have to say that they don't sound eerie (from what I've heard), but the guitar playing is phenomenal and eclectic. Very nice.

I would recommend both Herd of Instinct's albums. The first (self-titled) has some vocals, while the second (appropriately titled Conjure) is completely instrumental. The music has a very eerie, cinematic quality, and revolves around Mark Cook's Warr guitar. This is a video they released as a preview of Conjure in early 2013, which should give you a taste of what they are about:

I'm not sure if Pink Floyd would qualify as "Dark Prog" but I think they made a decent stab at it with "Careful With That Axe, Eugene", "A Saucerful Of Secrets" and the bulk of The Wall.

That Ash Ra Tempel track surprised me. I wasn't really paying attention and I thought it was just atmospheric noise. Then a guitar solo emrged and I was intrigued. I'll listen to them again when I can focus better.

I liked the Arachnoid album very much (it's on youtube luckily), very good use of keyboards. It also has a KC feel here and there.

Unfortunately, I don't really dig Swans. I tried to listen to "Filth", "Cop" and "Children of God" on several occasions, but they did nothing for me. I kinda liked the title track of "The Seer", though. I could give this live album a try, perhaps it will change my mind, who knows?

This one! I've been totally blown away by this album. It's awe inspiring, majestic at times. It sounds "big". And it has jumpscares too! LOL

At least these were dark for me when I began listenning to prog and AST's debut was the first prog album (except Pink Floyd and another popular stuff) I listened to. But I think it's not only me who finds them gloomy. Smile

Tea & Symphony are a little bit like Comus. Their album "An Asylum for the Musically Insane" is definitely worth listening to, and came out before Comus. Not quite as dark, but still quite strange and I feel that album was an influence for them.

If you can find it, Arachnoid is some great dark prog from France.

Oh yes, you're right, even though I'm not familiar with post-'74 King Crimson. Also, since I usually only listen to "Islands" from their early period, (and that particular album sounds quite pretty), I didn't include them, just to be safe.

Great one! Yeti were a fantastic band. I gave a five-star review to "Things to Come".

It's a favourite of mine too. If you really like Yeti, and aren't already aware, you might want to know that there's two really good live tracks from them on a CD of Progday 2001 that you can get on CD Baby. It's only about 20 minutes of music, but I think it's the only live Yeti you can get apart from some CDRs the band apparently used to sell, but that I've never seen offered for sale.
