Tears For Fears, who have made three pretty good albums in the 1980's. I enjoyed visiting a few of their concerts as well.

have you heard the two Nik Kerswhaw albums in 1984, if you like the Three Tears for Fears albums, they might suit Your taste.

I love a lot of those bands ... but Ultravox is my favourite. Vienna is one of the coolest albums ever .. Mr X puts me in a trance every time I hear it

A toss up between Japan and Talk Talk, but Talk Talk made the greatest album of all time so they get the vote.

Depeche Mode is the only group from this batch that I've listened to with any frequency over the years.

Japan win this poll hands down. Fantastic band, and fully deserving to be included here on PA (they're in Prog Related), in spite of the naysayers.

Wow, I love a lot of these bands.
A-ha came out with one of my all time favorite 80's songs, "The Sun Always Shines on TV" the lesser known, but far superior follow up to "Take On Me" so they certainly deserve an honorable mention.
I love Talk Talk, they're such a wonderful combination of melodramatic warbling proggy goodness, but again, they only get an honorable mention here.
Duran Duran . . . still doesn't get the win, though it pains me to see them with no votes. Yes, they were a little poppier than the rest but they have such an extensive catalog and so many great songs, it was hard to vote against them.
Regardless:
Depeche Mode gets my vote hands down. When I look at my CD collection, I have more Depeche Mode cd's than any other artist that isn't included on this site. Catching Up With, Some Great Reward, Black Celebration, Music for the Masses, Violator . . . these were the albums of my high school years. There was never any chance that I could vote for anyone else.

a-ha My favorite pop band. One of the best vocalists I've heard plus good musicianship, carefully crafted songs, they reinvented themselves a few times, played synth-pop, pop-rock, alternative rock. The albums since their reunion in 2000 are great.
