I've been an Opeth fan over several years now. Still I love their overall style which comes form very talented musicians, especially Michael with his pretty much unique approach to writing songs. Baying of the hounds is actually one of my favorites.. really moving. I wonder why did you make such kind of comparison here? Traffic is completely different to my ears..

Traffic over Opeth any day of the week........as some have pointed out Traffic were founders of the early prog and folk rock sounds while Opeth have yet to impress me on any level.

Meh, playing "retro" prog is actually less mainstream than extreme metal. I don't like their newer stuff though. The only album I find listenable from them is Damnation.
I'll go with Traffic. They're boring, but basically listenable for the most part.

Quite the opposite bands.
I like both, but I much prefer Opeth. Although I don't like much of their post-Still Life stuff, back in the days of Morningrise and Still Life they were masters. Ghost Reveries and Deliverance are awesome though.

I saw them live in 2010 - it was dismal. I agree with the above...'forced'!

I have tried diligently to be a Opeth fan. Their combination of death metal elements with traditional classic prog elements just doesn't convince me. It always seems forced and disjointed to me. Traffic, on the other hand, was a band with real songwriting and performing chops!

Will have to go with the bland one.

Have you heard Opeth's last two, growl-less albums. Actually, they hardly have any metal within them at all. Perhaps you could find something to like on those ones. |
I voted for Opeth based on those 2 plus Damnation. I love them instrumentally on the other albums but I can't stomach the growls. I like Traffic well enough, but agree that they are hardly prog.

Quite enjoy Traffic and would much rather wait in it than listen to Opeth who are only fit for making wands out of (bonus points to whoever gets that reference)

Opeth - talk about attention to detail! Easily one of my top ten favorite bands.
Traffic's okay... but doesn't take me on the amazing musical journeys Opeth does.

Opeth, a band with the power to surprise us with each of his albums. The last two are amazing.

Are you kidding me? We got polar opposites here, and what is that obscene landslide vote I see? I guess I under-estimated the number of men over 50 on here. Rookie mistake. Seriously though, Opeth is way more original and exciting than Traffic. I would barely even call Traffic prog they're so mild. Barlycorn is a straight folk album. |
You kids and yer Prawg Metal. In my day we had real metal! We took rusty piano wires, strung 'em across broken pogo sticks and strummed till our fingers were bleeding. The only growls happened because we were in agony. And we liked it! We loved it!

hahahhahah. I nearly missed that. Oh that was great HT!!

Traffic. Mr Fantasy and Low Spark are two albums that go way back with me. Then again Orchid does too, but that's the only album of Opeth's I really dig.

Easily Opeth Traffic are pretty subpar.
