Love them both, but Talk Talk has had a much greater impact on my life. They were one of my favorite New Romantic type bands even before they blew me away with Spirit of Eden. I think It's my Life was one of the first 20 CDs I ever bought.

Slint are quite amazing too but I always wished they had a stronger vocal presence, especially since their lyrics can be shockingly good ("Good Morning Captain" is devastating). But most of the time they're just mumbling the words.

Talk Talk vs. Slint

Really only related because of their influence on post-rock. Talk Talk started as a New Wave band, Slint as an odd post-hardcore band.
