Note, it's the longer pieces that get the votes (duh). Wilson and his band of merry men have a way to develop outstanding epics which never fail to please the MAJORITY of Progheads.
I am truly baffled that naysayers exist in regards to SW....... To me, he is the main torchbearer for modern Prog. There are many keeping Prog alive for sure, but none more successful and widely known as SW. I adore 70's Prog, and most things these days get compared to those amazing things, but SW really capitalises on melding up-to-date music stylings with regard to the classics, without sounding 'neo'. Hats off to him.

Ancestral

Couple of new reviews on the LP on the main page......I still don't see what all the fuss is about. I just listened again to the album and to my ears it's basically the same stuff Wilson's been  writing for the last few years.

They also usually have the latest from Transatlantic, Riverside, Opeth, Marillion. However, they have been diminishing the amount they have. Before, they had some of the back discography from many of this bands, but lately they have gotten more wary about it. They used to have the whole discography of Pink Floyd, Yes, Dream Theater, PT, Rush, I think even Frank Zappa (whom I have not seen there anymore). They used to have some back discography from Rick Wakeman, Gentle Giant, Camel too, now I think they have nothing from them. I even got one or two RPI albums there.

The shops here have tons of the older prog material. I can find Amon Duul, anything by Zappa, Yes, Genesis, Can, Camel, younameit from the 70's, it's probably here. Unfortunately, they don't have much of the newer variety. They do have Tool, but no PT/Steven Wilson, no Spock's Beard, no Anglagard, no Beardfish. Some of this is to be expected I guess, but they didn't even have the new Muse album that came out.

Yeah man, from the very first listen - Ancestral. Not that I dislike any of the tracks on this album. Still, I prefer Raven overall.

Adam Holzman's Moog solo followed by Guthrie Govan's guitar solo is just perfect. Regret#9 it is.

At last I got this album... but I don't think I can pick a song yet. So far the one I have been coming back most is Perfect Life... but I guess that's mainly because it's the most recognizable, I really don't think it will be my favourite from the album. I guess it will end up being one of the songs that come after that one (Routine, Home Invasion, or Ancestral). There's one which has a keyboard part that really reminds me of ELP (bordering on rip-off)... I guess it's Ancestral... that one might just as well end up being the one.
