Only one? Depends on so many factors.....but at this very moment, I'd say: the Soft Machine....no, Gong....no, Yes or Genesis or Crimso......no, no, no.....this question is wasted on me 'cause I'm so wasted.

Gosh, I remember Planxty as well! Listened to a lot of folk during the 1980s prog desert. So, Genesis 1975 would include 'Trick of the Tail' as it was recorded that year?

Two random guys agreed to shake hands. Just Because. They felt like it, you know. It was an agreement of sorts...a random agreement.

Though I wouldn't put them with Yes, Crimson or Genesis, they did some amazing music. Sadly they're more known because of their later work. But their earlier albums were great.

I shook my head and smiled a whisper knowing all about the place

Hardly.
Progressive means going forward or onward, passing successively from one series to the next, proceeding step by step. That is exactly what the Beatles did with each new album. They were a huge influence on all the musicians who formed progressive bands in the late 60s and early 70s.
