I second the Sanguine Hum recommendations. Great band! I did a double take when I saw them labeled as Neo here on the PA database - but then again, Discipline were in the same spot for a long time before someone finally decided they needed to be moved.

I've not heard their 2015 release, but Diving Bell and Weight of the World are both really good albums, in my opinion.  But then again, I love Neo, so what the hell do I know.

Thumbs Up Thanks Scott!. That will be first up the computer play list after whatever Raff has in the CD player (perhaps that is the answer to my previous question LOL) is done.

Speaking of modern Canterbury, I assume that you are familiar with Syd Arthur.

Another good band who appear in the recent Canterbury documentary.

hahahah.. oh yeah.  Wink  I nearly got strung up when I quetioned their inclusion during the initial screening of the new Romantic Warriors movie.  Love teh group...  from Canterbury.. and hear ZERO reference to Canterbury scene prog rock.

I was outvoted.. bah.. even Raff threw me under the bus in the group discussion..and left me hanging out to dry LOL I was the only one to question their inclusion...but yeah.. a good friend of ours turned Raff and I onto them.  Great group and love the albums

The dividing lines between Neo, Crossover, and Prog Metal (traditional) are pretty blurry to me.  I'm sure that there are rhymes and reasons but too complicated for my pea brain to comprehend.  Best I've been able to figure out is that Neo and Symph are the same except that Symph uses authentic moogs and mellotrons and Neo uses Casio keyboards and synths, or some such thing.

Their newest album, Now We Have Light (2015), has a displeased cat on the cover, so I'm sure it's right up your alley, Micky. LOL

well  I didn't puke up Raff's wonderful Salmon dish she made for dinner..which is a plus Thumbs Up and was good enough to keep my listening for nearly an hour... but that simply isn't micky style there.  It falls in the most wretched of places.. not bad enough to have fun sh*tting on.. and yet not good enough to make me fist pump, or want to hump a pillow. It was just sort of .....there. Thanks Scott!!  Good try!

That one is also excellent! Last year it was one of my first submissions for Something for the Weekend? (the second link in my signature).

I dabble here and there in many bands and many genres.  Although, ironically enough, Knifeworld might well be the next modern band that I'd suggest to micky, but I didn't want to step on your toes.  Wink  That, and I'm pretty certain he already knows them, but I don't think that they were included in the modern tournament.

They weren't included as their best album was too recent, but a great band, clever, edgy, witty pop

I didn't pay too much attention to the thread setting up this tournament so I wasn't sure what the criteria was for modern bands to be included.

there really wasn't any Scott...  I put out there to the collabs, in particular those of the genre teams, give me albums, great modern albums of your subgenres from '86 to '13. I think everyone understood the spirit of it, the real meaning.  Even Raff and Ian, who know the modern scene as well as anyone don't know all of these. The rest of us mere mortals?  There are a lot of great albums out there we might not have heard.  The contest itself is nothing more than 'fun', the opportunity was given for those to take the chance to really explore the modern offerings. I've taken full advantage of it, and am damn happy (and proud) that many have apparantly seen and taken that opportunity as well.

just as a heads up to everyone or anyone who hasn't voted yet in the modern polls.

polls close tomrrow morning.. likely will be early so I can get the bottom half of the classic bracket done in case I get called into work tomorrow.

On that note, a LOT of close, nearly tied, and tied polls.   We are doing tiebreaks differently for round 1 of the moderns. A group of 3 have been appointed to break any 1st place and 2nd place ties.

With the moderns we don't have the breadth of reviews the classics do so that is a no go for 1st place tiebreaker and it might take a week for tiebreaker poll to reach the 10 vote winning threshold.
