Has there been any motion to include Denmark's band VOLA for their amazing new release Inmazes? They sound very much as if MEW, TEARS FOR FEARS or DEPECHE MODE had gone djent/metal. Awesome music, awesome vocals, awesome composition, awesome production. Odd blend of styles but IT WORKS!

Check them out at bandcamp:  https://volaband.bandcamp.com/album/inmazes

And get them on PA fast! I want to post my review!

Are you talkin' to me?! Are you talkin' to ME?!

Is this my baptism? (by fire!) Write a bio. Okay. Challenge accepted. I will write a bio for Vola. Do I submit it here, to you privately, or on the PM collaborators' thread?

And then there's the question of the "addition." HOW???!!! I haven't a CLUE as to how to "upload" or "add" something to this monstrous site except as posts like this!

For now just thoughtlessly pass it off to a teammate who has five stars and they'll do the addition and quit the team in a few months due to overwork and burnout.   But that's PA !   It's romantic and tragic at once, and at least we get something done.

Hey! I'm serious! I'll give it a shot! I've already started--Facebooked the band to ask for their input. Copied and pasted their own bios from Facebook, their webpage and bandcamp. I'm not experienced at importing photos or links but I can learn. . . . I think.

I know you're serious, and so was I (with a strong dash of sarcasm).    Any 5 star on your team will not mind making the addition at all.

Okay this is ALL new to me. I'm really sorry to be just another f*%king newbie that you guys have to train, but I'm just another newbie. Somebody's got to help me out. Is there a page or tutorial or checklist new collabs can go to for help?

What is a "5 star"? (For that matter, what are the significance of the stars under our names & titles?) And Who is Kaiser Soze?

A 5-star is anyone here with five of those shiny gold things above your avatar.   You have four, so you can't access the top-secret Additions Page.   But with hard work I've no doubt you will!

Note:  A 5-star on the team that the handles the subgenre this artist is accepted in would do the addition.   So if it's decided they're metal, then the Progmetal guys would handle it, etc.   But you can still write the bio.

I errantly submitted the VOLA bio to my CANT/JR/F Mosh Pit page. Here it is for you guys, aapatsos & Atavachron:

Danish experimental rock band VOLA features Asger MYGIND on vocals and guitar, Nicolai MOGENSON on bass, Martin WERNER on keyboards and programming, and Felix EWERT on drums. The Copenhagen-based quartet grew out of a common interest in eclectic, groove-oriented music which draws inspiration ranging from 70's progressive rock to modern day electronica, industrial and extreme metal.

VOLA's music exists in a borderline area of rock that is as high-flying (the name “vola” means “flying” in Italian) and melodically fulfilling as it is itchy and heavy. The band forms quirky trails of distorted ‘djenty’ bass and 7-string guitars—tuned to each other in played in the same octave—entangling synth lines and constantly groove-driven drums that play up against wide vocal harmonies and deep-blue-textured electronica.

VOLA took its first baby steps about ten years ago when vocalist/guitarist Asger started jamming and writing music in the Gymnasium of Birkerod (a Copenhagen suburb) with a few friends. It wasn’t until the EP Homesick Machinery in 2008 hat things started to get really serious. Apart from Asger and keyboardist, Martin, the lineup was different back then and the sound was more hard rock-ish.

It was on Monsters in 2011 that VOLA started using down-tuned 7-string guitars and the sound got heavier than their initial hard rock sound. By that time bassist Nicolai had been in the band for some time and drummer Felix had joined recently. The band believes that their mutual understanding and attraction towards similar music is what helps them progress into a new genre and write such coherent music. The process of making all the instruments compliment each other perfectly is another point that brings about the best about VOLA. They like to consider the bass and guitars as one instrument and are thus tuned to the same octave. The guitars form the meat of the sound while the bass is the bone. VOLA believes that it’s all about the perfect punch and all of this just adds such an intensified punchyness to one-note riffing. Asger adds, “When you add a kick-drum to this you get a very satisfactory, meaty sound. The keyboards are a great tool for building orchestrations around the sparse harmonics of the riffs. While the riff notes might suggest different chords, the keyboards can easily substantiate these chords and make the soundscape much bigger”.

After the release of a well-received EP in 2011, “Monsters,”  VOLA finally released their debut full-length studio album, “Inmazes,” on the 2nd of February 2015. For lovers of MESHUGGAH, TOOL, and PROGHMA-C if they don't mind the melding of DEPECHE MODE, TEARS FOR FEARS and NEW ORDER into the mix.

So, where does this band belong. Here is a list of the bands who, in my opinion, sound the most like them and where PA has placed them:

Meshuggah:  Tech/Extreme Prog Metal

Leprous:  Tech/Extreme Prog Metal

Tool:  Experimental/Post Metal

The Gabriel Construct:  Experimental/Post Metal

Karnivool:  Heavy Prog

Taylor Watson:  Progressive Metal

Distorted Harmony:  Progressive Metal

How fair is it, that someone made the effort of providing a bio, if the band is later rejected ?

How about:

1. "Blind" listen and vote
2. Avail + agree on style if band OK
3. Write bio and
4. Finalize addition

Wow! I am shocked! The #1 ranked album on another respected (at least, I think they are respected) progressive rock site (ProgSphere) can't find a place on PA! Headlining at at recent Euroblast with Between the Buried and me, Haken, Cynic, Leprous, Monuments, et al. and then with Pagan's Mind, Leprous, Myrath, and Enchant in at Prog Power in Germany. What's up?

To be fair, I'm fairly certain they didn't know Vola would end up being rejectedWink
