Hi There, Hopefully placing this in correct spot and hopefully formatted nicely. A lot of good new stuff the last few years, so Was looking for suggestions on 'new acts'that i may have missed or not given a fair chance to. I think i lean toward pop meets prog. For ie, I tend to like the Phil Collins 'led' Genesis years more. You can ignore older act rec's... unless you feel they really warrant a go. Longtime ELP, Yes, Rush, Gabriel, Genesis, Marillion/Fish, Vangelis, Asia, Crimson Fan Yes could release rap Keisha covers album sung by chipmunks, and i'd like it. here are my recent buys that i can recall..jeez.$$$. maybe i shouldn't ask for recommendations.. Arena Unquiet Sky (A+), Seventh Degree Asia XXX, Phoenix Gazpacho March of Ghosts (one album pretty much same as another, that i've noticed) Steve Hackett Squackett (A+), Tunnel IQ New to. Frequency, Ever, Road of Bones (A+), slowly listening to others Lifesigns Aponymous Pendragon, Men Who Climb Mountains, not into older stuff Rothery Ghosts of Pripyat Sound of ContactDimensionault(sic?) Spock's Beard Brief Nocturnes(A+). Only Beard i REALLY like United Prog F Fall in Love with World (A+) Steven Wilson Raven, Hand Cannot Erase Yes Fly From Here, Heaven&Earth Bought, But Not A Personal Fav IT Bites Map of the Past Arena Pepper's Ghost (Turned me off from other Arena albums for now) FM latest album, bought a couple tracks, can't recall which. Considering Hackett Wolflight..maybe another listen..but soooo turned off by cover and album name :D Spock's Beard Oblivion Particle. Feels like a 6/10. It is $13 at amazon, otherwise would pass it up. The Windmill Probably from google store sadly, really like The Gamer Gazpacho Demon maybe, but again, every album vocally sounds similar Starcastle Song of times. Sounds like Yes, but i know it is not Iamthemorning Hearing good things about belighted. may check out. Fallen Totally Flat, but may not have 'tried' with... Riverside Shrine of New Generation slaves i kind of like, but not $20 worth. Porcupine Tree/Other Wilson albums Flower Kings Camel Transatlantic Pineapple Thief Prog Metal Lunatic Soul Anathema Lay it on Me!

I would say Edison's Children and Iamthemorning. You might want to give the new Riverside a chance... it's rather poppier than the previous ones, but I guess you should listen to it before making up your mind. Also there's the last Marillion album. Since you like so much Yes related things, perhaps the Prog Collective thing from Billy Sherwood... though I personally didn't like it so much.

Hi mate
Seems like you have similar tastes to me. I'm a relative newcomer to Prog and have been dipping my toes in lately. I recommend the following: Arena - The Visitor. This is def as good as Contagion - possibly better. Haven't heard Pepper's Ghost yet so can't compare to that. IQ - The Seventh House, Dark Matter, Subterranea (live version is cheaper!). If you like those too you might want to go back to the first 2 as well, but give Nomzamo and AYSC a miss Big Big Train - English Electric Full Power (you really need to hear this) Synaesthesia - Eponymous - this is really good Spocks Beard - Like you, I find Brief Nocturnes their finest work (from what I've heard), but I also like the Oblivion Particle and Snow Anubis -HItchhiking through Byzantium Pendragon - Pure is good and fairly recent Sylvan - Posthumous Silence And given our similar tastes I've taken some notes from you too!

catching up on all the recommendations. thanks everyone.
i'll start with big big train and Synaesthesia. i think i tried BBT a while ago, and it didn't impress me much.i see they may have a new album out on amazon, so i'll spotify/youtube it and give it a better go. also corpo-mente, there is a notable lack of female presence in prog : ( actually, i did buy Edison's Children, last waking moments (i think, with dusk/fracture). Time Machine/Million Miles away really hooked me. It sounds a little like that Gouya(sp!) song that was huge for a year (and i believe edison's version came first!) i should have listed it, but it was an google store purchase so forgot about it. airbag, haken, sylvan also fell flat with me, but with prog, you do have to give things another try. steven wilson's hand cannot erase was a 5/10 until i listened to it in the car. 10/10 now. |

I also have given Enchant's, the Great Divide a go. It is another borderline one. A couple of the chorus'es (chori? :) ) have hooked me, but just a littttttle pricey. |

Perfect Beings is a great suggestion: Removal of the Identity Chip is one of my all time favorite songs. Also try Piezo, The Mihalis Experience, Battle Circus, Distorted Harmony, Zentraedi, and Thank You Scientists.
